    Church sharing in history

Monasteries and convents are a good example of communal living. As a previous post pointed out forced giving (socialism) doesn't work well so Christians have the freedom to live like that or not. Unfortunately most of us choose not to live like that. Although I don't choose to live like that...

    Who

I was in a rush when I posted but I had wanted to comment that selling it as single adventures instead of seasons seems like a rip off. I think part of the problem is there are episodes missing from older seasons but I don't think that's the main reason. The main reason for not selling it by...

    Who

They have many Doctor Who stories on dvds from 1963 to 1989 and in July they will have the entire 2005 season on a set of dvds.

Any Fans of The Shield out there?

I didn't like the finale but I predicted how it would end half way through. Considering what happened in the first episode of the series and then in season three Shane killed a member of the team it doesn't surprise me that Shane would murder Lem. What I can't wait to see is how long it...

    Black. White.

I like this show which is surprising because I don't watch many "reality" shows. I have to agree though that the make up jobs of the Black family aren't believable and Rose's is the most believable make up job. I knew even before the series first aired that the white father was out of touch...

    Great Raid

I saw an ad for this movie on July 4th but until yesterday nothing else. Now they're advertising it more and I hope it's a good movie because the subject is great. I learned about the Alamo Scouts a few years ago and at the same time learned this exciting story. Alamo Scouts were special...

Why did america have the war of independence?

Taxation was not a major reason for the American Revolution. It was the main source of dispute, although not the only one, in the 1760's but it didn't cause revolution and by the time fighting broke out in the 1770's it was no longer the main issue. The main problem was civil liberties. They...

    Question regarding E.M. Bounds

Another good book is the Handbook on Spiritual Warfare by Ed Murphy. I'm not familiar with Murphy and I read all of Strategy of Satan where as the misnamed Handbook is an enormous book that I've read very little of but what I've read from it is good. I seriously doubt many people have read all...

    Prequel or Sequel Favorites

Scary Movie. The first one was awful but the second was slightly better and the third was slightly better than the second. Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was boring and the Return of the Killer Tomatoes was really funny but on the other hand the first movie was family friendly and the sequel...

    Question regarding E.M. Bounds

I've heard of Bounds but I've never read his books. Is the book any good? I personally recommend Strategy of Satan by Warren Wiersbe. I think it's an example of hyperbole and describing how powerful the enemy is he exaggerated. Bounds was human and all of us humans make mistakes.

Scifi Friday (Stargate sg1, stargate atlantis, Battlestar Galactica).

I tape it (all three shows) for my for my dad who doesn't have cable. I liked SG-1 a few years ago but I quickly became bored with it. I watch every once and a while but it isn't a show I'm interested in seeing every week. I like Battlestar Galatica particularly since it tells a really...

has anyone seen the breakfast club

One of my favorite movies particularly since it's so rewatchable. Some movies are great to watch one time but I'm not interested in watching a second time and most movies are good to watch as long as you haven't seen it in at least a couple years but I can see that one often and it never gets...

Quote a favorite line from a movie

I've been thinking of quotes for the last couple days since I first saw this thread and tonight I made a real long post with a long list of my favorites. Then a windows update caused the computer to turn off before I posted:mad: Here's a few of them but I'm not going to type all those again...

    Help in finding a church

It would depend on the local congregation as much as the denomination. The UMC and the Presbyterian Church come to my mind. Predominantly Black Baptist congregations tend to mix conservative theology and liberal politics but most non Blacks feel weird visiting them.

    Famous Methodists

A post by Okie got me thinking about something I've been curious about in the past. That thread mentioned Hillary Clinton and our president are both Methodists and I mentioned in that thread that Colin Powell, Margaret Thatcher and Andy Card are Methodists. What celebs are Methodists? Can...
