    Which Bible translation ?

We use the NRSV-Catholic Edition in the mass here in Canada. I'm not a fan of the translation, but there are worse ones out there. I personally prefer the RSV-CE.

    Met Herman

I disagree. I have met my bishop (Archbishop Seraphim) several times and spent a lot of time speaking with him. I love him deeply and would be brokenhearted to lose my archpastor. I think a complete wiping of the slate would be an overreaction. I think repentance and forgiveness is the way...

    Prayer request re: pregnancy

Thank you everyone. We are still waiting on an ultrasound appointment to make sure everything is 'normal'. The upside is that if everything is good then the due date as of right now is Pascha 2009. Peace.

    Prayer request re: pregnancy

Hey all, It has been a while since I've posted anything here. But my family could use your prayers. My wife and I just found out she is pregnant. But here is the catch: she had her tubes tied seven years ago after the birth of our third child. While we weren't expecting another child, we...

Anyone here married to a non-Orthodox or a non-Christian here?

It's been a while since I've talked to anyone on here about being married to a non-Christian. I'm just wondering if there are any others still on TAW? (For the record, I was already married when I converted to Holy Orthodoxy) I'm still finding it difficult and challenging trying to be a...

2 Esdras and 4 Maccabees Scripture?

4 Maccabees is not universally accepted as scripture. The OSB left it out (among a few other things) because of size. I heard Fr. Peter Gilquist mentioning that they needed the bible to be under 2000 pages so that the binding would hold and the farther under 2000 the stronger the binding (hence...

    What book are you reading?

The new OSB, Wounded by Love (again), I just finished Ladder of Divine Ascent (finally after two years of slugging through it), and my priest is lending me the biography of St. Innocent since he is my patron saint. Peace.

    Questions about Last Supper...

I remember hearing Fr. Tom Hopko mentioning that it is impossible to reconcile the 4 gospels. Not just the Mystical Supper accounts, but the ressurection accounts, crucifixion accounts, etc. It has never really bothered me though. (The only thing that bothers me is that I cannot find the link...

Do Orthodox Christians recognize Catholic ordinations?

Depending on circumstances though. I was baptized RC but was (re)baptized when I became Orthodox (admittedly with a conditional baptismal formula). My son was a confirmed RC and was only Chrismated. Not only that but only annointed with a cross on the forehead (instead of the whole body) because...

Bishop KALLISTOS' lectures from last month

I've so far only found the same two. They were really good lectures though. I'll keep my eye out for more. Peace.

    Converts to Christianity from Islam

I too converted to Christianity from Islam. The difference with the other TAW members is that I was a convert to Islam and not raised Muslim. I was raised nominally Christian and became Muslim. I did believe in that faith and was a practicing Muslim for over 5 years. All of my issues were...

    I want to give up

Not to belittle your experiences, but I don't think it is a coincidence that Lent is coming. I'm going through struggles as well...'tis the season. Just remember Christianity is not as hard as you think. It is more than rules and regulations. God does most of the work. Satan wants you...

For the Love of God - the Elder Porphyrios

Wounded by Love is one of my favorite books. I'm working on it for the second time now. Elder Porphyrios is on my short list for patron saint (yes I'm Orthodox, but I haven't picked a patron yet). Peace.

    OSB here!

I just got mine (hardcover) from my parish on Sunday. I don't think any of the drawbacks are significant enough to worry about. But I just started going through it so we'll see. I've been looking forward to this bible for a long time now and I am very pleased to finally have a LXX for...
