The Blessing of a Civil Marriage

I'm in a similar boat with Gurney - I met my wife in the Philippines and petitioned her as my fiance, so when she got here we had a civil wedding right away. We went back to the Philippines and had a (Catholic) church ceremony/convalidation for the benefit of her family, two years later. The...

Article -Episcopal Church reports lowest membership in 70 years

This doesn't surprise me, either. Nor does the fact that you found it on OBOB, or that it was reported by CNA. Nor do the comments on CNA, sadly.

    Can a Deacon....

In the Episcopal Church, can a deacon serve as a vicar when no priest can be found?

The Martyrs of New Guinea, 1942

Today, we in the Anglican Communion remember our brothers and sisters who were martyred in New Guinea in 1942. I've read what I can find about them, and their courage was really remarkable. They were ordinary folk: clergy and laity, men and women, British, Australian and Papuan. They all had a...

Should the label of 'protestant' fade out of favor for a more postive one?

Since different varieties of Protestants vary significantly in their beliefs, it would be more accurate to refer to us as Episcopalians, Methodists, Baptists and so on. I also like "seperated brethren" better than non-Catholic. :)

Bishop: Catholic church 'under attack' from fundamentalists

"They succeed because the Church has failed in many ways to satisfy the spiritual hunger of many of the Catholic faithful," Rosal said. I might add that they succeed because of the public's perception that the Catholic Church in the Philippines is allied with and supports their corrupt government.

    Question for converts

FWIW, I went through RCIA a few years ago, and I've learned since then that I was taught many things that are not true, and many important things were left out. I guess the instructor was not qualified, and there was not sufficient oversight. So, yes, Catholicism is different than what I was...

Is the Catholic Church sex-negative? The perpetual virginity of Mary

Not trying to debate here, just asking, but wouldn't Mary and Joseph's marriage be invalid if they weren't open to having more children?

    Mothering Sunday this Weekend!

We used to observe Mothering Sunday, simnal cake and all, in the parish where I grew up. We stopped in about 1985 when we got a new pastor, IIRC, and I hadn't heard of it being practiced anywhere else. So I'm glad to see that it's still observed in some places.

    Catholics married to Non Catholics

Slightly off-topic here, but does Catholicism teach that the Catholic party in a mixed marriage must work for the conversion of the non-Catholic party? My wife sems to think so. Talking to other spouses of Catholics, it seems that pressure to convert is not unusual. Snowbunny, I don't think...

Archbishop Sentamu Does NOT Support Mugabe

My admiration for Archbishop Sentamu continues to increase. http://voanews.com/english/2007-12-10-voa33.cfm This is especially welcome following Bishop Kunonga's recent remarks (in the thread below).

"There Are No People Being Killed in Zimbabwe"

The Bishop says so: http://allafrica.com/stories/200712050017.html Rather discouraging to hear this coming from an Anglican Bishop, IMHO.

How do Catholics view the Church of England?

These parishes are part of the Traditional Anglican Communion, not the Church of Ireland. That number of 400,000 refers to the entire TAC, most of which is in the US. There are fewer than 400,000 communicants of the Church of Ireland, most of whom are in Northern Ireland.
