Bush pledges a "tidal wave of compassion."

In a time of national disaster and pain, is trying to be witty an appropriate response from the nation's leader? I'm optimistically hoping that it was just a Bushism blunder and not an attempt at wit.

Bush fakes levee repairs for a photo op

Didn't the FEMA boss admit that if it wasn't for reports coming from news agencies in the area, that they wouldn't even know what was going on down there?

New Orleans Residents: God's Mercy Evident in Katrina's Wake.

Isn't that interesting. I saw the attitude of the people interviewed in the OP as being demeaning to the victims of Katrina.

Bush pledges a "tidal wave of compassion."

And reps to you. Bush: the man who over promises and under delivers while people die and environs crumble.

    New Orleans Blame Game

I can only hope that one day you will understand. There are many mitigating factors in this disaster. Many. Environmental, political, financial, social....many mitigating factors. There are so many things that will need to be seriously addressed when the horror for the victims is over.

A Failure of Government in These United States

I don't find it distasteful. I don't absolve Nagin of not getting enough people out quick enough and not taking the threat as seriously as he should have before Katrina struck - he was negligent there, for sure, and too many people have paid with their lives. New Orleans Blame Game

I utterly charmed by your deep Christian conservative compassion. Funny how they're Good Patriotic Citizens of the United States of America when you need them as cannon fodder. Again, I am rendered almost speechless in my disgust at people's [lack of] humanity.

A Failure of Government in These United States

Apparently Nagin was told to get people to evacuate earlier than he actually did. This was a breakdown at every level and at every critical minute, prior to landfall and in the aftermath. :(

    Category 5 Typhoon Coming...

I heard about it on the news, OddBeani. http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200509/s1452816.htm It is weakening with the cooler waters as it heads for Japan, and I hope those in it's path will be safe.

A Failure of Government in These United States

And Mayors for negligence in not taking the situation seriously enough, early enough, too. New Orleans Mayor, Nagin, was as careless and cavalier as Bush in responding to warnings and the need for urgent planning and action. My god.

I was definitely not trying to be funny. Yes, I'm outraged. Very. I'm sad, too. :(

    I know. I'm sorry.
