From the Catholic Encyclopedia article on Michael Cerularius

Thanks, guys. (Edit: Come to think of it, I don't think "schismatical" is even a word.)

From the Catholic Encyclopedia article on Michael Cerularius

http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/10273a.htm "His chancellor Nicephorus burst open the Latin tabernacles, and trampled on the Holy Eucharist because it was consecrated in azyme bread." How accurate is this?

    Our Lady of Perpetual Help

I love this icon. I saw it at a Catholic friend's church recently and it got me wondering. What's "the deal" with this particular icon? What I mean is, why is it in particular so popular in the West?

    Baptism

It's what we do :D I'm rather surprised, I didn't think immersion was very common, especially with Catholics. Learn something new every day I guess!

    Baptism

Christ is baptised! (Happy Epiphany!) Does anyone know when baptism in the West changed generally from immersion to the "sprinkling" or "pouring" (I hope those terms aren't negative) that is more common today, and what the reasoning for it was? Thanks, God bless!

Why the RCC over the EO?

I don't mean to take attention away from the topic at hand, but could anyone kindly recommend me some books on this subject from the Catholic point of view? I must admit I've never even considered Rome's position on this matter in a meaningful way.

    Looking for a quote

I've been trying to find a quote from a saint (I think it might have been Saint Augustine) that talks about something along the lines of man is born with a noose around his neck and each step he takes tightens it or something like that. I've googled the thing to death but to no avail. Anyone...

    Speaking of History. . .

I don't see how co-opting the use of the word Catholic automatically makes you the original Church. There are other groups out there that call themselves Catholic too, and a few of them have been doing it for just as long as you have.

    How to greet a priest?

The greeting you read on the website is pretty much universal. You don't even have to say "Father bless," just get ready to "catch the blessing" and he'll know what you're doing. If you're non-Orthodox, though, the priest probably won't be expecting you to ask for a blessing so he might try to...

    Western Rite Orthodox

I second that. I wish there was a WR church in this state.

A Brief History of the Christian Church...

After glancing at the timeline, I noticed two things. First, the iconoclast heresy is mentioned, at the year 787 - Icons approved at Seventh Ecumenical Council. Second, that council was before the split, so it appears you guys were around for that one too.

A Brief History of the Christian Church...

I'm still not sure what your point is. What does iconoclasm have to do with the Inquisition?

Why would that be on a timeline of the Orthodox Church?

    Nestorians

If they're Nestorians, then they're not part of Eastern Orthodoxy. This site has a pretty good overview of Nestorius and why he broke from the Church.
