    My wife wants a divorce

BigNorsk, that's very good advice. We generally don't say mean things to each other but it tends to happen in big fights. I hope that's something we can change. livin4christ, that's interesting that your husband does that too. My wife says driving helps her to think when she's upset. I...

    My wife wants a divorce

Yesterday, I wrote out a list of all the things that she needs to be fulfilled in our marriage (thanks for that great suggestion.) I also wrote a list of qualities about her that are true. This really helped me understand her in a way that I honestly never have in the past. I prayed over both...

    My wife wants a divorce

Thank you all for your prayers and kind words of advice. I have no idea how I'm going to function at work today, as I can think of nothing other than this huge bomb that was droppped on me. I hope she said it just out of frustration and to really try to get my attention. I'm willing to fix...

    My wife wants a divorce

After a fight tonight, my wife told me she wants a divorce. We've been together for 12 years and have a 5-year-old son. To my knowledge there has been no infidelity on either part. She says she's unhappy. And that we're just not "close enough." We had a very emotional conversation a few...

Was God's Kingdom already established in 70 AD ? - Preterism views

I haven't read this whole thread, so sorry if this is a moot point. But, it seems to be a full preterist you must put a lot of stock into non-biblical writings (the turncoat Josephus for instance who was pretty much a pawn of the Romans,) to deal with difficult passages about the second coming...

The Reformed and prayer - resources?

I've been asked some very good (and tough,) questions about prayer from a reformed perspective. I found Pinks, "THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD," chapter nine is a great resource. http://www.pbministries.org/books/p...gnty/sov_09.htm But, it's kind of a tough read in some places. I was wondering...

    do you fear death?

I think it's natural to fear the unknown. The only part I fear sometimes is the event itself. Will it be painful? Will it be quick? I don't know. I DO know whatever happens, I'll be in the presense of God shortly after and that's a very comforting thought.

    I see Tulips

Van I think most people responding are skeptical of your motives of such a question. Is your question really an honest question in pursuit of the truth or are you subtlety trying to push an agenda such as "Calvinism is a mistaken view of scripture"? Well, what say you? Why DID you ask the...

What is reformed theology.. Sproul answers

I'd have to agree with Catholic Dude on listening to Sproul. While I love his books and agree with his theology in general, he's a bit long-winded when speaking. I admire CD for listening to all those episodes. :)

Can you thank God you have faith?

No, I didn't mean Christ was a gift, faith in Christ was the issue. Nevertheless, you did answer my question. According to you, "I rested MY faith on Christ," (emphasis mine.) It's pretty clear who you think is responsible for your faith - you. Therefore, there is no need to thank God for...

Can you thank God you have faith?

I did not ignore it, you just never answered my question (or if you did, I did fully understand your answer.) I'll ask you one more time in case you missed it: Did God give you the saving faith to believe in Jesus Christ? Is is a simple yes or no question, Van.

Can you thank God you have faith?

I think you're skirting the issue, Van. You seem willing enough to say, "Here is my response. You are wrong. God gave me everything. Therefore I can thank God for everything," so does "everything" really mean EVERYTHING? Did God give you the saving faith to believe in Jesus Christ? If not...

Can you thank God you have faith?

Nope. He just obeyed his natural, sinful nature and acted accordingly. From his point of view, it was a free choice yet it was still God's will. God cannot be thwarted by man's plans, unless one believes that God is not sovereign. We also know that Jesus knew Judas would betray him so it...

Can you thank God you have faith?

I don't want to speak for Cygnus, but the way I understand this is that man determines his actions but God is in control in an overall sense. For example, Judas freely chose to betray Jesus, yet it was God's plan all along. The same can be said of Joseph's brothers.

The problem no one wants to address....

Van, I have taken your assumptions into consideration but have found them lacking in many areas. A few years back, after much study and prayer, I found the Reformed view is much more in-line with scripture. Your claim that Total Depravity is not found in scripture is false. There are many...

The problem no one wants to address....

Van, if I may ask, why do you so fervently try to discredit Calvinism? Did you have some kind of traumatic event in your childhood that scarred you? You obviously (and curiously,) think Reformed theology is evil and go to great lengths to try to prove your points even though most of your...

What happens to non-Christians when they die?

I agree entirely. This is a Christian area only, isnt it? By the way, Isiah 45:7 does not say God is the author of evil as the OP says. From CARM's site: Isaiah 45:7, KJV) - "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things." (Amos...

Spiritual Inability - The Wrong View of Scripture

Van, this passage doesn't say "you cannot accept Jesus....." Why must you change the text from what it says? This passage is talking about ability and that the ability is given by God. This has all been talked about before, as recently as your own, "Fudging the ball," thread in which you...

Spiritual Inability - The Wrong View of Scripture

You're correct, it's very simplistic. Nothing difficult in seeing how a verse can be changed to mean something it doesn't. Incidentally, my post was not aimed at your response; I was quoting Van in post #10. blessings.
