    Issues with Mormonism

It erroneously claims to be the unique manifestation of Christ's church on earth, and it erroneously claims that Christians who are not on its membership rolls do not have Christ's authority.

Using only the words of Jesus....

There's truth in that. Just when you're about to let someone have it, buddy mack posts something crazy. And then you can't go through with it because you're too busy rolling your eyes and chuckling to yourself. -CK

    Infallibility of the Bible?

I know of some. How about Agabus? Or John the Revelator?

Using only the words of Jesus....

So maybe we should believe in conditional universalism. As long as nobody commits the unforgivable sin, God will save everyone. Of course, in a sense, we're all conditional universalists. As long as everybody loves Jesus, there will be universal salvation! :)

Using only the words of Jesus....

Hi hybrid, That passage could just easily be used to support annihilationism. -CK

Using only the words of Jesus....

Thanks... I try. I don't know if you've seen the thread in the LDS forum about salvation for the dead. It's something that might interest you as an alternative or an addendum to your own universalist views. I also recommend, if you've never read up on it, looking into inclusivism. John...

    Infallibility of the Bible?

Priesthood must have been lost even before that, since for the first couple centuries of the church's existence it did not have an organized priesthood. The organized priesthood was a later development and a way of explaining the mechanics of apostolic succession.

    Infallibility of the Bible?

I can trace my priesthood authority directly to the Holy Spirit, even without the aids of genealogy and record-keeping, because there's nobody in-between me and him! Since its beginning, Protestantism has affirmed the great truth that there is no exclusive priesthood. All Christians are...

    Infallibility of the Bible?

Actually, a very large cross-section of those who would be termed "evangelical fundamentalists" do believe in continuing revelation. Pentecostals and charismatics strongly believe that the gift of prohecy is as functional in the church today as it was two thousand years ago. The difference...

Using only the words of Jesus....

Are Jewish messiahs and Jewish prophets only for Jews? Jonah went to Nineveh, and Isaiah predicted an age when even Egypt and Assyria would worship God and behind them Israel would be "the third." Quite the reversal, eh? Daniel prophesied to the nations. I think the reason Jewish prophets so...

    Infallibility of the Bible?

The Bible is not inerrant, at least not in the sense of providing accurate historical and scientific data. The scriptures in our canon were chosen by the church because they are consistent with the church's experience of the living Jesus, so I suppose that insofar as the church has deemed them...

Using only the words of Jesus....

Tim, My understanding of EchoPneuma's argument is that at the last judgment not everybody will go to heaven. But after an age in hell, they will have some kind of second chance; and eventually everyone will choose to follow Christ. Not everyone is "saved", though, because to be "saved" means...

What's the differance between Godhead and Trinity?

I missed the part where the fact that we are citizens of an other-worldly kingdom means we shouldn't be "involved" with civil governments. I also missed the part where Jesus telling us to pay taxes and Paul telling us to submit to secular authorities took place "at the point of a sword". If...

What's the differance between Godhead and Trinity?

 Hi Orontes, All I am saying is that the emperor and the bishops addressed a legitimate problem in the best way they knew how, and that I think they did a great job. Its method was innovative, its scope was broad, and it involved the church deciding on an issue rather than the emperor...
