ACLU tried to take the vote away from the people

Were it not for the ACLU, we might as well stamp every copy of the Bill of Rights with "VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW".

What I think a liberal Christian is.

The only thing is the dichotomies aren't exactly the same. Today's unorthodoxy is tomorrow's orthodoxy, and so it has always been. A liberal may be orthodox or unorthodox, as a conservative may be also. Generally conservatism views orthodoxy as the individual conservative defines it, as a...

What I think a liberal Christian is.

Depends on what you mean by "the traditional beliefs of Christianity". Traditionally, scripture was taken to be historical and metaphorical. An interpretation where it is considered literal, as in fundamentalism, is a recent development, having arisen in the late 19th Century. So in this...

What I think a liberal Christian is.

Not exactly. All pick and choose which verses they choose to take literally and which ones they don't, liberals and conservatives just pick different ones. And conservatives generally claim to take the Bible literally but are in denial about how selective they are on that.

What I think a liberal Christian is.

Yes and no. In some ways one's commitment is to how to live your life, not who to vote for. Like it or not there are aspects of religion that are ideological. Labels may hamper communication, or distort it; some Baptists, for instance, may describe Pentecostals as "liberal", which means...

What I think a liberal Christian is.

Very well said. A Christian should be humble and willing to admit he or she may be wrong. Liberal Christians often manage to avoid the cognitive distortion of "being right" though we tend to be self-righteous at times when comparing ourselves to the Falwellians and Robertsonites in that we are...

Sexism is the only reason things such as this occur.

Wash. Judge Rules Against Gay-Marriage Ban

It's exactly equivalent in the sense it is a battle against injustice. Actually there was a considerable extent of the practicing of "passing" between the emancipation of slaves and the civil rights era in which light-skinned Blacks lived in white society and pretended to be white and got away...

Wash. Judge Rules Against Gay-Marriage Ban

The story behind that is quite interesting. The established gay rights groups-Human Rights Campaign, National Gay Task Force, etc.-did believe and act exactly as you say and for those exact reasons, until recently. However, grassroots gay and lesbian people demanded the marriage issue be...

Wash. Judge Rules Against Gay-Marriage Ban

Either way people should be provided with equal rights.

Wash. Judge Rules Against Gay-Marriage Ban

Actually, not...it's the Radical feminists who are generally lesbian or asexual. Most "lesbian feminists" are average, moderate sorts of people. Yes. Calling all feminists that sort is like calling all conservatives nazis. Yes, there are probably about as many diverse schools of feminism...

Wash. Judge Rules Against Gay-Marriage Ban

To some extent, which is of course an excellent argument against it. But even if passed some details would have to be worked out. In come cases the separate provisions conflict with one another. Of course, it's extremely doubtful this amendment will ever pass, so, this is moot anyway.

Wash. Judge Rules Against Gay-Marriage Ban

Not in most states. In most states employment and housing discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is entirely legal.

And you were incorrect about that. They still are in most cases. Only about 17 states have civil rights laws that include sexual orientation as a category.

Wash. Judge Rules Against Gay-Marriage Ban

Yes, in Nazi Germany and Cuba. Yes, if convicted of sodomy.

Wash. Judge Rules Against Gay-Marriage Ban

No. The present supreme Court is very much in favor of states' rights on individual issues. Marriage is not within the range of federal responsibilities.

    Dance in Church

A Baptist friend likes to raise his hands Pentecostal style during worship and he reports some in the Congregation frown on that. One horror story: a conservative but staid church once had a guest who was an evangelical Puerto Rican woman who felt moved to shout and dance and she was escorted...
