    Esran (SaintGeorge) Returns Again

Dear Old Friends, It's been quite awhile since I've been here. My last life update post was in 2015 on OBOB. After that, I didn't post until now. Before that, I hadn't been active for about a decade. The people at OBOB and TAW were a central part of my online and religious experience during a...

    Esran (SaintGeorge) Returns

Dear Old Friends, It's been quite awhile since I've been here. About a decade, actually. The people at OBOB and TAW were a central part of my online and religious experience during a very interesting time in my life. Thank you for that, and God bless you all for your presence. A lot has...

    It's been a while

Of course I remember you. We used to tussle quite a bit back when I was in high school. Coincidentally, I logged on to the forums today to prepare for an upcoming roast among friends that will involve the dramatic reading of particularly embarrassing passages from old online posts. I'm...

    Join the Exodus.

Look, guys, this forum is no longer Christian. Your Orthodox brethren at CCF are starving for activity on their forum. CCF split off from CF when this all first started occuring. I kindly invite you to join us. We have a community for Eastern Orthodox there. Here's a link...

    Adrian V?

I can't remember, but I think their were cases similar to this in Constantinople, i.e. the Muslim government would appoint a man to be the patriarch, but he would only be a layman or perhaps even an incognito Muslim. So, other bishops had to then consecrate him later. I could be very, very...

    About our OBOB rules

They ask a question in the main part of OBOB. Also, a link to the catechism and a short summary of official Church teachings could be stickied at the top of the debate subforum.

    About our OBOB rules

How about creating a debate subforum?

    About our OBOB rules

No, it's not like that. As the rules say, it is not an act of discrimination. It is there to respect the rights of those who do not wish to be exposed to dissenting views.

    About our OBOB rules

Not really, the permission would just be so that the moderator knew which threads to flag as what. It's not like it would ever be denied. Denial would only ocurr for those who have manifested themselves to be continual trouble-makers and are interested only in offending people, not debating.

    About our OBOB rules

Excellent! Then let's lock them, post them, and move on with our lives. Nobody will ever be perfectly happy with them.

    About our OBOB rules

There. I fixed the rules. Now there can be a safe haven and a place to discuss dissenting views, while still maintaining fidelity to the Church. Everybody wins.

    About our OBOB rules

I thought about joining the Orthodox Church, but I overcame the temptation. I've been attending the Catholic Church every Sunday for about the past three years with only one or two exceptions. I don't mind helping those who struggle like I struggled, but struggle was whether or not to leave the...

    About our OBOB rules

Wrong answer. Hoping for a change in things that are infallible and unchangeable by nature is not a well formed conscience, it's an act of futility and stupidity. Please don't be offended, but realize how silly you sound, "I know they say that teaching is infallible. I don't agree with it, but I...

    About our OBOB rules

Exactly. It's called excommunication latae sententiae. When things got weird in the 1970s, the Church decided that excommunication penalties in the 1983 code of canon law would be made automatic and not require a trial. This bold symbolic act affirms something that is already true, i.e. that...

    About our OBOB rules

Because of the philosophy and new purpose of CF. By staying they feel like they are sinning by consenting to relativism, or by remaining silent and complacent about it. Most of us have just set up base elsewhere, but are still posting here until things get too bad to handle. Then, we will leave...

    About our OBOB rules

    About our OBOB rules

Alright. I like the rules as we have edited them. When will the new version be posted officially?

[OPEN] How do you rate the new CF?

CF has become wikiality. Stephen Colbert, a wise man in some regards, sums up wikiality nicely...

    What makes modernists/liberals tick?

I have given a lot of thought to this very question. This is how I see it. The essence of modernism is a lack of work ethic combined with moderate doubt about the very principles of religion. As G. K. Chesterton said, "Christianity has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found...
