    Which Translation-10 choices

Out of the available choices I voted for the NASB. I would have voted for the NIV had the TNIV not been joined with it. I have pretty much all the translations listed plus some others. The ESV is a very nice translation and I have recently obtained a NET bible from bible.org which I like very much.

Athanasius vs. Arius: Were they holy men or politicans?

You are right. It was at least in part based on politics. Constantine saw strife being created in the very religion which he had just instilled as the religion of the empire. This undermined his ability to maintain control. This is the very reason he called for the ecumenical council. So the...

    Jb 29:4

It simply means that Job is recalling and longing for the time when he perceived his life as having God's blessing upon it. If you read further on in the chapter you see he longs for the time when his children were with him and when all he did was blessed. You have to remember too that Job is...

Athanasius vs. Arius: Were they holy men or politicans?

I was speaking more of the entire process. There were many different ideas espoused up until the Nicene Creed closed the debate. But, I can tell you are going to insist on a polemic debate. It is my belief that Christians should debate in an irenic fashion. It better befits He whose name we carry.

Athanasius vs. Arius: Were they holy men or politicans?

But John wrote it in Greek did he not? Or do you take umbrage with John's translation, inspired by God, of Jesus' words? There is also no reason to believe that Jesus did not speak Greek in addition to Aramaic. Koine Greek was the language of the common man at the time.

Athanasius vs. Arius: Were they holy men or politicans?

This is an excellent example of why linguistic derivations of english words should not be considered as an authority when discussing issues that were originally written in greek. The etymology of begotten is accurate only insofar as explaining how that word was understood in english at the time...

Athanasius vs. Arius: Were they holy men or politicans?

I waded through this whole thread hoping to see some actual discussions concerning Arius and Athanasius that made sense. Unfortunately, I arrived at the end and was disappointed. I think the first step in the discussion should be to look at the general history of the church. The church had...

Are All Baptists Thought To Be Calvinists?

I was born and raised Baptist, but I am neither Calvinist or Armenian in my soteriology. I think there is a balance between the two that most fully encompasses what scripture states.

    Discipline

1 Corinthians 9 24 Do you not know that the runners in a stadium all race, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 25 Now everyone who competes exercises self-control in everything. However, they do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one. 26...

    Need help

First, read Romans 13:1-7. Governments and authorities are not quite under the same guidelines as individuals when involved in carrying out their responsibilties to those that they govern. It might also help to read in Revelations. It certainly puts a kink in the cuddly, fuzzy-wuzzy picture so...

    Old Testament Question

The best picture we have of what occured after death in the time before Christ's sacrifice is found in Luke 16:19-31. This is obviously not referring to Heaven as we think of it in this age of grace, nor does Hades seem to refer to the eternal hellfire mentioned in Revelation. There was however...

    Progressive Christianity

    1. Have found an approach to God through the life and teachings of Jesus; Well, they start out well. Although I didn't know it was lost. 2. Recognize the faithfulness of other people who have other names for the way to God's realm, and acknowledge that their ways are true for them, as our...

    Robert Schuller ??

I know that one tenet he has grabbed hold of in the last few years is a universalist concept of salvation. That reason alone is enough to stay away from his teachings. There are many other reasons too. Here is a link --- Robert Shuller Theology

    What do they mean?

No, that is not what I said. Without Christ, who is the propitiation for our sin there is no atonement.

This is why the pro-life movement gets laughed at

Before you jump to any more conclusions, please re-read my original post and take the paragraph you snipped in context of my whole post and in the context of the thread in general up to that point. It was written as a mere example that medical procedures and the medical field in general are...

This is why the pro-life movement gets laughed at

Concerning abortion - Your original query concerned the condemnation by pro-life groups of violence toward abortion doctors and clinics, and the supposed parallels between said groups and Islamists if no such condemnation were found. By expanding the argument over and over you are simply...
