    Petition against neglectful animal shelter

Not sure if this is the best place to put this. My family members in Alabama have first hand experience with a disturbingly neglectful animal shelter called "League for Animal Welfare" in Anniston, AL. I'm trying to help them any way I can...

Food cravings during the great Fast

Rice and beans get old after awhile but I don't eat that much normally anyway. I'm more so thinking about some dishes to cook for after the Pascha service. I do enjoy cooking but I don't care about cooking good things for myself.

    Singles room

It is what it is, I don't hold grudges or at least try not to. But I do find myself a touch remiss in that, meeting people seems more difficult in an age where I can have friends literally all over the world.

How would you like to be buried?

Just a brief video on the topic from an EO perspective.

    Singles room

I sort of found mine in college, but after we got married she decided her career was more important (I was stationed in Germany at the time) and she left without a word. Came home one day and found her gone, on a plane back to the US to pursue her master's, served me with divorce papers not long...

    Lives of the Saints

It's fine, this subforum exists for that purpose of information exchange and you're more than welcome to reach across to here. Reading and knowing the lives of the Saints is a blessing in itself.

    Lives of the Saints

I was raised southern baptist here in Georgia, and I feel a bit robbed. Their struggles, particularly those enduring the yoke of Islam and Communism, really show you what it means to hold fast to your faith. I mentally paint an image of an obstacle course wall climb in the military. I'm...

    Lives of the Saints

Indeed, the one regarding St. Moses the Black almost sounds like how I would picture him sounding. Welcome by the way, I saw you were new here.

    Lives of the Saints

Came across these on Youtube. I know it's nothing new to find presentations of these stories on the internet, but something about the way these were put together feels different. To me at least, it feels more like a witness to the events in question is sharing a fireside story with me. It's more...

    In Five Years

I used to say that I have three things I want out of my life, 2/3 being more someone else's opinion To be a good husband To be a good father To own my own land Maybe, I'll have 1/3 of those in five years I guess.

    Church Bells

So, a family in my parish put up the money to donate 5 custom made bells. Problem that we're running into is that we're not sure the best, most appropriate way to affix the bells to the structure we have in mind (basically a square pavilion). I was curious if anyone here had any advice in this...

    Orthodox perspective on self-defense

Yeah that's what I was wondering about as well as the reference about St Nickolas.

    Orthodox perspective on self-defense

I was thinking about this topic the other day when I read about st alexander peresvet, a monk that died in single combat on the battlefield. It didn't quite square with my understandings of the use of violence in reference to Orthodoxy. I hate to be the one posting meme videos, but I'm also...

    Who Started the Great Schism?

So I'm still a newbie with all this, but doesn't this joint statement essentially concede to the Orthodox position (especially in article 19)? If it's something accepted by the Pope, would that not mean it must be accepted with docility by the laity? I don't see how statements like this can...

Orthodoxy is good but what about others?

I think I heard this in an interview with a priest, but one revision of that statement would be to say "we know where the holy spirit is but not where the holy spirit isn't." Always thought that was a better statement to make, still not perfect but I wouldn't expect there to be a perfect one.

    Who Started the Great Schism?

Or Honorius, the sixth council and everything problematic for Vatican 1 that comes as a result.
