    Single predestination?

I can only speak from a Lutheran perspective, but I think the problem with taking God's foreknowledge into account is that it makes Election conditional, in this case conditional on who will have foreseen faith. But for this to be true, it implies that people can come to the Gospel by their own...

Is the lack of "central leadership/authority" a weakness?

This exact question is what I think about the most when deciding between Anglicanism and Lutheranism. I appreciate that the Lutherans have a clearly defined theology, something that they can stand on and teach. But I struggle with the biblical-yet-unreasonable soteriology system within...

Compiling a list of potentially heterodox churches and denominational outliers

St Thomas Fifth Avenue is great! Im great friends with Fr Schultz over there, if I were to convert from ELCA to TEC I'd probably go there. Unfortunately American Lutheranism is so pietistic :(

Compiling a list of potentially heterodox churches and denominational outliers

That's so funny, first thing I did was check if HerChurch was on here and yep it is :tearsofjoy:

Do United Methodist still hang out here?

Hi, although I am currently Lutheran I am interested in Methodist theology and was wondering if there is a “Wesleyan Anglican” scene, essenitally theological Methodists with Anglican liturgy/Book of Common Prayer. Wesleyites

    Single predestination?

Hey guys, just wanted to add something which I heard from a discussion recently. Basically I was confused about which stage is it that one is not saved: are they given the gift of faith but they reject it, or did they not receive the gift at all? And from my findings, it seems the former is...

    Single predestination?

I figured that it's a mystery since time would be seen from a higher dimension, like a 2D character trying to make sense of a 3 dimensional plane. But I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts, I guess I just hesitate to reject it because it seems to be the backbone of a lot of Western theology like...

    Single predestination?

Augustine, perhaps one of the most beloved Church Fathers, promoted the idea of predestination to the West and laid the foundation for Aquinas’ Thomistic theology of single predestination that many Roman Catholics adhere to today. Many Catholics do hold to Molinism, however

    Single predestination?

So I've been trying to make sense of the doctrine of predestination as someone currently attending a Lutheran church. I've been reading through the Book of Concord and find myself in agreement with everything I've read thus far, but when I look at some of the criticisms of the paradox of single...

    Bipolar and religion

For most of my life religion has been very important to me, but the more I reflect on it the more I see how it is a constantly-oscillating point of doubt to complete confidence that moves in sync with my bipolar disorder. When I'm manic, believing becomes much easier, I think God is talking to...

Any Swedes here? Question on the Church of Sweden

I know that this isn't ELCA, but I figured it'd be more productive to ask here than the main Lutheran forum since the CoS is part of the LWF like the ELCA. So I'd consider myself in the "evangelical catholic" vein of Lutheranism, unfortunately around me it seems that Lutheranism has been...

    Lutheran (ELCA) vs Anglican (TEC)

Dunno if this is what he means but Maple Anglican made this video interviewing and comparing a high church and low church priest

    Lutheran (ELCA) vs Anglican (TEC)

Very good points, I am not entirely opposed to "low church" practices as I had a lot of experience with a Baptist church that really captured the passion that many Evangelicals feel. It's a beautiful feeling and I respect all worship styles, I just prefer the immersion of being in the Kingdom of...

    Lutheran (ELCA) vs Anglican (TEC)

I guess in terms of convenience it would be easier for me to be Anglican. It seems that people of my liturgical persuasion are rare in America, at least in ELCA, so I'd have to move to Sweden or Finland to find like-minded high sacramental Lutherans. I'd have to leave everything behind from my...

    Lutheran (ELCA) vs Anglican (TEC)

NALC is nice, plus I hear that they have good relations with ACNA. However I am LGBT affirming, it took me a while to get where I currently feel ok the issue but the it’s something that I feel strongly enough that I can’t abandon it even if I hear cringe heresy preached from the pulpit

Are Anglicans required to accept the 7th ecumenical council?

Thank you, I appreciate your honesty. It’s a shame, because doctrinally Lutheranism has a solid confession and when the liturgy is done right (like in Sweden) it truly is something special. I actually fantasize about pursuing ordination in Nordic Lutheranism, of course that’s probably not really...

Are Anglicans required to accept the 7th ecumenical council?

What I find frustrating is how a liturgical expression of Lutheranism would be exactly what I would be looking for, but at least around me the ELCA seems to cater to low church evangelical sensibilities. I was fortunate to find an "Evangelical Catholic" parish but it seems like those that...

Are Anglicans required to accept the 7th ecumenical council?

Oh wow what made you make the switch? I see so much similarities in both traditions that I find it hard to decide.

Are Anglicans required to accept the 7th ecumenical council?

I've actually done some more reading and am quite interested in the "Prayer Book Catholic" tradition as there seems to be an inherent moderation in the Dearmerites compared to that of the more radical Anglo-Catholics. Still stuck between Lutheranism and Anglicanism though
