Guys, having some John 6:37-40 struggles.

Could you explain further? Every Lutheran I ran into seemed to say Calvinists use reason too much and such.

Guys, having some John 6:37-40 struggles.

Hello Pastor! @Daniel9v9 ;) Thanks for your gracious response. Ngl, I don't even want to study or think of taking the Lord's Supper because of the terrible warnings. I need to be certain before I take it. The dilemma l'm having (you may be already aware of it) addresses a few separate and...

This hymn might be of comfort to those with scrupulosity

"Not in the strength of my graces, not in the sincerity of my repentance, not in the depth of my love, not in the heights of my contemplations, not in the labors of my hands, not in the good opinions of the saints, not in the favor of the world, not in the knowledge of all Scripture mysteries...

Guys, having some John 6:37-40 struggles.

Thank you. So what I'm getting out of this, salvation is dependant on how resistant you are and how soft your heart is(?) If so, this isn't making much sense in light of Ezekiel 36:26.

Guys, having some John 6:37-40 struggles.

Thank you. I actually come from a Reformed background. I'm concerned that Perseverance of the Saints and Evanescent Grace might be true because of this chapter, and so I was hoping to get a clear Lutheran take on John 6.

    Question regarding Evanescent Grace

How can anyone look to themselves for assurance and see anything good? Everything we do is tainted in sin. How am I to ever know that God won't use me in the above manner? Does he not love us? Why would He do such a thing? Humanity was already destined to hell by the sin of Adam.

    An unspoken prayer request

Please pray for my very serious unspoken prayer request. God knows what it is. Thank you.

    Question regarding Evanescent Grace

Can you be reformed and not hold to the doctrine of Evanescent Grace? Or must you believe it to hold the title? How can anyone know they are truly loved and saved...It seems very cruel to not know you're being used in such a way: "Experience shows that the reprobate are sometimes affected in a...

Guys, having some John 6:37-40 struggles.

I'm very sympathetic to Lutheranism, but this John 6:37-40 passage is a killer. It doesn't make sense to me if I am to hold to universal/unlimited atonement and monergistic salvation. It says no man can come to Him unless the Father grants it and the Son will lose none that come. You believe He...

    Pets in Heaven

Oh, here's the text: WILL ANIMALS, INCLUDING OUR PETS, LIVE AGAIN? Christ proclaims from his throne on the New Earth: "Behold, I am making all things new (Revelation 21:5, ESV). It's not just people who will be re-newed but also the earth and "all things in it. Do "all things" include animals...

Amended* God cannot die and question regarding the Hypostatic union

No, problem. I wasn't clear. Was there a disagreement between you and @ViaCrucis or was it just a misunderstanding?

@RickReads What's the issue you have?

    Is Halloween evil sinful

It can be taken too extremes. I still like seeing the jack-o'-lanterns on people's doorsteps and eating the candy. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

If They Drink Any Deadly Thing, It Shall Not Harm Them

James White and Dr. Riddle did a debate on the longer ending of Mark the other night. Riddle did a great job defending Mark with sources. While White asked hypotheticals on what would make Riddle dismiss the longer ending. Here's the debate:

Amended* God cannot die and question regarding the Hypostatic union

Ok, good. Final question. I hope you don't mind, I appreciate all your so far answers. This is what I'm really wondering. How many persons is Christ now? Is there a reason we say two natures instead of two persons? When I say person, I don't mean being or entity. I mean personality, the nature...

Amended* God cannot die and question regarding the Hypostatic union

Sorry I'm reading other people's answers on this and they're all different. I'm just learning J. P. Moreland and W. L. Craig are both neo-Apollinarians. I guess I should avoid their material. I'm mainly thinking before the incarnation, the eternal Son was Spirit, right? What happened in the...

Amended* God cannot die and question regarding the Hypostatic union

I don't understand what you're answering. I'm aware of their rejection of the crucifixion. I never said the Gospel was off. The idea that human nature is expressed as just flesh and experienced physical death and torture sounded off. Matt Slick from Carm said this a few times on his show.
