why does God let this happen ?

I always find it odd how we can move right along in life believing in God and (unless we live under a rock) knowing that there's war and poverty and disease and plane crashes and so on without it causing us to question our faith, but...something bad happens to us and then, well, we're going to...

    Liberal Christian new to CF

Hey! Started coming to the site about a week ago. Have posted some comments in some threads but am still getting acclimated. I'd love to get better acquainted with some other members here--have thought of starting a conversation with another member or two but am still a bit shy! Feel free...

    WWJD

So then, assuming you go ahead with shunning him, have you considered how and when you're going to make contact with him to point out his sin, as Matthew 18:15-17 instructs? Have you decided who the one or two others are that you will bring along if he doesn't listen? And also who you'll...

and It seems to me at some point that we need to consider the broader import of scripture as well. The answer's not always going to there for us wrapped up in a tidy bow. Jesus as well as the prophets spoke at great length about love, mercy, compassion. Jesus also warned us about the...

    WWJD

Well, if you conclude that he confessed Christ and it's that important above all for you to follow scripture to the letter on it, it seems that turning your nephew away would be rather letting yourself off the hook. Seems the instructive verses on that would be Matthew 18:15-17. “If your...

Also, it seems to me that growing up in a Christian home in the United States, unless that home was a cave, it seems pretty likely that he has heard at some length about Christian views that condemn homosexuality, if not in his home, then from his childhood church or from the wider Christian...

    Is CNN Biased Against Sanders?

MSNBC made their own contribution to the cause by bringing in a "body language expert" to prove that Bernie Sanders was lying. Apparently the local psychic wasn't available. 'This Is Why No One Trusts the Media': MSNBC Slammed for Featuring 'Body Language Expert' Who Calls Sanders a Liar

    Is CNN Biased Against Sanders?

I think it's rather telling if the best evidence of Bernie Sanders being biased against women is a quote from an essay almost 50 years old. 'Cuz God knows none of us change our views/politics in a half century.

    Is CNN Biased Against Sanders?

I think "old white men" are viewed with distrust by the progressive base of the Democratic Party. Early in the presidential race there was a fair amount of talk in more progressive circles, particularly on Twitter, about not wanting another old white man as the Democratic candidate. White male...

God's People are to be Friends With all People?

Yeah. But the thing is, last time I checked, none of us are Jesus. We ourselves are also sinners and we were also told by Jesus on the Sermon on the Mount that we need to remove the plank from our own eye before removing the speck from our neighbor's. I understand this as making the point...

Perhaps when even moderators don't take issue with whatever these minor curse words are then the issue may not be so much the language but your reaction to it. I think as Christians there's nothing wrong with having standards for ourselves, but part of loving our neighbor is learning to accept...

Is anyone going to watch the Lev Parnas interview with Rachel Maddow tonight?

Watched a couple clips. Can only take limited doses of Rachel Maddow. She'd make a great Peter Pan though.

Did Jesus being troubled in his spirit meant that he lacked faith/peace?

Jesus in his humanity experienced the same range of emotions that we do. Our faith is ultimately born out in our choices, our actions, not in our emotions which are often fleeting at best. Jesus in his actions, in willingly submitting to the cross, showed his faith.

    Does God have feelings?

If God didn't have emotions, with no feelings for his creation, seems like he would be more of a deistic/clock-maker God, that would just wind up the universe and walk away. Perhaps some may believe in that kind of God, but I don't think it would resemble the Christian God very much.

Does God hold us responsible for dreams/hallucinations?

Would an earthly father hold their child responsible for a dream/hallucination they had? No. How much more our heavenly father, then?
