    Hey -

Sorry all, I've realised I don't really belong here, nobodies fault, not everyone fits in everywhere :) So, peace be with you all and see you when the Lord returns! Mim

The Sign of the Cross and Anglicanism

It wasn't an argument - I am not against it in any way, and I never used the word "inappropriate" or said it was wrong in my post, I just stated what we did at my church. I was just joking with the "popish" comment - I do that sometimes. That's why I separated it and put it at the bottom of the...

The Sign of the Cross and Anglicanism

This is interesting - we never make the sign of the cross, not even the priest, not even at our 7:45am service where we use the traditional prayer book services. However, we do have the priest mark with the sign of the cross someone being baptised, but that's it. Kneeling is encouraged at...

    women pastors.

Not going to say yes or no here, but just as a topic of interest: What if you don't have a husband? Then we are to devote ourselves to God. Thoughts?

Reflection on "love" in the world

Yes, a lack of knowledge and a lack of wanting to find out more, I'm afraid. But it's a view I'm coming across more and more these days.

Reflection on "love" in the world

I didn't decide that - the woman who told it to me said it was more loving. It is a secular view, there are several. Labella - I don't doubt she believes that. I just think, as I said, that the faiths she was talking about might see things differently. You could always ask a committed Muslim...

Reflection on "love" in the world

The secular view that the truly loving thing is to say that all beliefs are equal - it's amazing how extremely self-loving that view is when you follow it further. I had one woman say to me "Jesus, Allah, Buddha, they're all the same God." I wonder if she would be willing to go to the local...

    Not familiar with these terms

"they love to make 20 page documents tracing their succession back to St James or St Peter or St Paul" Hmm, 1 Timothy 1:4 anyone?

A good illustration of the problem with "feel good" bible quotes

"Make the bible say what I want it to say - what I don't like, it doesn't really say, because it is offensive, therefore it is a mistake they put it in" People wouldn't put it in those terms, but it adds up to as much. I stay away from any books aimed at women at the Christian bookstore like the...

    Justification by Faith & Works

I believe salvation results in works, which is a continuance of salvation, but not by my own virtue so I could boast in my own power. This is getting nowhere, I bow out now.

    Justification by Faith & Works

I agree - we are ultimately and only saved by faith, then works come as an outpouring of his love, not by some virtue of our own. Grace to the humble - God shows grace to the humble. Grace is not deserved.

    Justification by Faith & Works

Yay! Then we agree - you are not contributing, it the Lord in you, through His work.

    Justification by Faith & Works

Yes, if you deny Jesus his death no longer covers your sin. The one who overcomes holds their faith that Jesus died to save them. Romans 3:22-24 Righteousness is through faith.

    Justification by Faith & Works

So you are partly helping Jesus, He can't save you entirely on the cross by himself? Walking in the light is part of being converted, it's not actually what saves you. That's all Jesus.

    Justification by Faith & Works

Jason, none of those verses actually state that it is works apart from grace that is salvation, just that if you don't do works you obviously don't have faith. Was Jesus dying on the cross NOT enough to save you, but you have to help God out by saving yourself as well?

    Justification by Faith & Works

This'll make it easier - everyone here who is a Freemason, please stick your hand up! (Sorry, just trying to lighten the atmosphere :) )

    Justification by Faith & Works

Personally, I think I am utterly helpless to contribute in any way to my salvation, that Christ achieved it all on the cross. I think "faith without works is dead" doesn't mean you are in some way partly achieving your own salvation, because then there would be cause to boast in yourself...

    Weariness

Hehe, that's what my Vicar told me - after a sermon from a curate on eagerness to serve God, he said to me "And remember to cut yourself some slack, as well." There's a walking path through bush along a creek nearby I use in the same way - quiet, a place to pray and thank God and be refreshed.

I am very happy you feel better! I remember when a medication finally started working - it was amazing, I definitely knew God had his hand in it. New joy, new purpose.
