Why Do You Pray for People's Salvation?

We know from Scripture and Tradition that God cares about the prayers of the people. This is also why we ask saints to pray for us. I pray for the salvation of all people, both alive and departed, and that they be reconciled with God.

What to Watch in US politics: Special election in Georgia!

Watch for what is expected to be a close election between the Republican and Democratic candidates in the special Congressional election in Georgia. Should be fun to watch results come in! Georgia’s Special Election Comes to a Nail-Biting Finish

What denominations are represented on Whoesoever Will, May Come?

I know that this forum is for all of us from a host of liberal denominations or non-denominational congregations. What are some of your guys' that you represent here? :)

    Pass Trumpcare? Or keep Obamacare?

The Senate is working on various options being presented about healthcare laws. Democrats want to keep Obamacare. 12 Republicans are secretly writing a bill to repeal Obamacare. Senator Susan Collins, a moderate Republican, has proposed allowing each state to decide for itself whether to keep...

Mainline Protestant and Evangelical denominations both declining, how do we change that?

The Southern Baptist Convention is not liberal and would not be 'PC' by mainstream standards. I would argue that 'PC' is, in itself, a flawed concept because too many people think that being rude is better than being polite these days. To me, 'PC' means respectful and polite, in other words...

Church of Ireland Bishop announces support for gay marriage

For the sake of fairness, the press used to be negative toward the liberal side of that issue. Some press agencies are still quite negative about the liberal side.

CofE Archbishop's Council gives 'okay' to gender re-naming services

The Secretary General, William Nye, confirmed that there is no barrier to General Synod passing a standardised service as a rubric for the whole Church of England. Nye also said congregations may already develop their own services for gender transitions. Church of England considering...

Church of Ireland Bishop announces support for gay marriage

Without arguing a case for either side, I would pose this question. Defining marriage as man/woman is doctrinal substance; defining marriage as between two persons is also doctrinal substance. So, aren't both camps offer doctrinal substance that is supported by or draws upon their adherents? I...

Is a creed other than the Nicene or Apostles' Creed ever used?

I will check out the prayer book. Interestingly, our service that uses the alternative creed is our 'evangelical' or praise service.

Is a creed other than the Nicene or Apostles' Creed ever used?

We've used the New Zealand Lord's Prayer before, but I did not know we used alternative creeds. Very interesting. I'll have to ask from where we published it!

Mainline Protestant and Evangelical denominations both declining, how do we change that?

It is an oft discussed subject that mainline Protestant denominations are declining and losing members. Evangelical denominations are also declining in recent years. The Southern Baptist Convention, the largest evangelical denomination in the United States with 15 million members, is declining...

Church of Ireland Bishop announces support for gay marriage

If they are both declining, how do you know that this are the factors? Isn't it possible that demographic changes represent a common factor contributing to their decline? The Southern Baptist Convention, one of the most conservative denominations, has lost over 1 million members in 10 years...

Is a creed other than the Nicene or Apostles' Creed ever used?

Yes, that was more about which I was inquiring. The one we were using was definitely a modern alternative version to the Nicene Creed. Do you happen to know if any of the provinces have published their alternatives?

    Trinity vs Oneness

I accept and understand that there may be different interpretations of the Trinity. However, Trinitarian theology is a cornerstone for historic Christianity. That does not mean that Unitarians are not Christian; on the contrary, I affirm that the Unitarian Church is Christian. When I was in...

Is a creed other than the Nicene or Apostles' Creed ever used?

So, it's fairly common? I have never encountered this in any other church to date. I have no objection to it. I am sure that, in terms of praxis, it is quite appropriate and proper to include alliterative creeds depending on the community. I just had not encountered this previously.

Is a creed other than the Nicene or Apostles' Creed ever used?

I did not know that we had such services for the Athanasian Creed. In my congregation, though, we are using an alternative to the other creeds. Are there Anglican provinces that have creeds in addition to the Apostles', Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds?

Church of Ireland Bishop announces support for gay marriage

Even with declining numbers, the mainline Protestant, or liberal, denominations continue to claim or be claimed by millions of members and adherents. Like conservative denominations, the liberal churches are declining, yes, but they're not going anywhere anytime soon.

What does your church accept as its biblical canon?

The study bible is not 'official' across the jurisdictions. That's true. But it contains the biblical canon used by the Eastern Orthodox churches. It was made official at different councils including the Council of Jassy in Romania. The Orthodox Church in America explains some of that and states...
