Trying to Reconcile My Faith with My Politics...

Thank you to all who have replied so far. I'm very grateful for all the insight and different perspectives on this thread (seriously!) One thing I would like to clarify - Libertarians should not be confused with anarchists, who believe that there shouldn't be any government or laws at all. As...

Trying to Reconcile My Faith with My Politics...

Well stated and a point that I would like to clarify: I feel strongly enough about my faith that, as an individual I would have no problem remaining a Catholic if the Libertarian party changed their stance to one that conflicts with the Catholic Church. Perhaps my supporting statements weren't...

Trying to Reconcile My Faith with My Politics...

I must submit that I don't understand the context from which you're making your reply. As I stated before, my political stance is one of non-interventionism; if you choose to do drugs that is absolutely your choice and not one that I would interfere with. However, you are fully accountable for...

Trying to Reconcile My Faith with My Politics...

Hi folks, Long-time lurker...rarely do I find something important enough or worthy enough to post on here at Christian Forums. I'm a Catholic convert ca. 2013 and also a card-carrying Libertarian. If you are unfamiliar with what a Libertarian believes I can paraphrase below: "A libertarian...

Do you fast before Communion and how long?

Same here. While not always intentional or really thought about for me, I go to "early" Mass which means I wouldn't have time to eat anyway. Drink some water, go to Mass and enjoy a cup of coffee when I get back.

    Beating your chest 3 times

Hi folks - resident (recent) convert here. I know I should probably know the answer as to why we are supposed to do this, but I do not. What is the reasoning/symbolism for this?

How would you describe your relationship with Christ?

In a word - strained. My relationship with Christ is one of peaks and valleys. Like any awesome friend, when blamed for the bad times He's still there, willing to listen and help, even when I shouldn't deserve anything more than a swift kick in the @$$. I have made it a habit to pray...

Churches vow to offer sanctuary to undocumented immigrants

So...as a natural-born citizen of the United States and as a practicing Catholic I've found a working middle ground for me. I do not in any way, shape or form condone the illegal immigration into our country to enjoy the rights and protections that are offered to its citizens. However, I do...

    Favorite Book (s)

The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Warning/Disclaimer: This book is probably the most harrowing tale I have ever read in my life. If you are a father to children you will find yourself walking away with an entirely different perspective on your relationship with your kids. Easily one of the top three...

    Home Sweat Home

BCP - you invited me, and here I am! I'm a Catholic convert from the Episcopal church and I'm approaching from a position of being very "green" in the faith, still. I know I have much to learn but would like to know how folks have managed to learn so much over the years. Other than buying...

Article: Francis Proves Catholic Church Still Needs a Reformation

So...weighing in on this (I really don't have a dog in the hunt as my personal belief is that the message can effectively come from the lay person just as it can from the clergy) - has anyone ever produced a reason why women cannot be ordained, other than, "because Jesus didn't choose any women"?

    Conversion Stories

Yes - I first heard of the faith/spiritual "journey" during my conversion process. It is a perfectly fitting word for such and event, as "the walk" doesn't end when the process is complete; rather, it's the learning to walk for the remainder of that person's life.

    What heals you?

Zoii - I've just started keeping a bible study journal (like, literally started yesterday with my first entry). Without derailing the thread - can you PM me with any ideas or tips that you may have to keep the habit going? Your choices in healing mediums allude that you're a very creative person...

    Conversion Stories

Recent convert here from the American Episcopal church - I'm a new forums member and came across this thread and decided to share my experience over the last couple of years. In 2013 I converted from Episcopalian to Roman Catholic after years of worship in that denomination. However, it wasn't...

    What heals you?

I wish that I could say there's a whole lot that I learned over the years of having so many children and animals (psst...drink more...just kidding!) but I can't say that there have been any life-altering revelations - just a lot of lessons in patience and more free hugs that never get old. I...

    What heals you?

What heals me...that's a tough one to answer off the top of my head. With 5 kids, 3 dogs, a bearded dragon and enough fish that I have officially lost count, the SO and I have precious little time to recuperate. But stopping long enough to think about it brings the following to mind: - Reading...

    A New Member

Hi folks! I'm a practicing Catholic with a large family who has come across the forums and decided to say hello. I'm looking forward to communicating with all the members, learning new things and maybe gaining some perspective on other things that I may not have had before. Thanks!
