    The Pope Visiting Prisoners...

I'm very discouraged by the willingness to attack other Christians; this is so contrary to what the holy Father is asking of us. It seems ironic that the very example Francis is providing can be ignored in order to attack some one else's faith/ actions. This is very troubling to me and I...

    The Pope Visiting Prisoners...

Rather than compare President Obama to Pope Francis, I think we would be better to examine our own lives. Who has even considered doing works of mercy among convicts? At least President Obama was the first president to meet with those in prison. There seems to be a lot of talk but very...

Obama doesn't preach a false gospel; he's the president of the United States who recently welcomed Pope Francis to America.

Retired California Bishop Takes Pope's Invitation to Speak His Mind

Yes, it is not a Mass that incorporates the consecration of the holy Communion but rather the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ. Religious [nuns/ monks] as well as the laity provide the Sacrament to those unable to attend a Mass.

    The Pope Visiting Prisoners...

It's a wonderfully intentional action by holy Francis to make us stop and think; would we ever go to a prison and minister to convicts? I know nuns [Immaculate Conception of Mary] who visits prisons frequently, even seeing people in solitary confinement. Pope Francis is pointing the way we...

Retired California Bishop Takes Pope's Invitation to Speak His Mind

The Reserved Sacrament is used. A priest can consecrate enough hosts to last weeks. This is the same Sacrament taken to the sick/ infirm by Eucharistic Ministers [who can be laymen/ women].

Retired California Bishop Takes Pope's Invitation to Speak His Mind

I did not know anything about Lutherans until marriage to a Lutheran and visiting a Lutheran country, Sweden. It is difficult to see any difference from the way we Catholics worship.

Why so little excitement about the Pope's US trip?

I would be very disappointed if Gusar was my representative and would tell him so.

Junipero Serra's Canonization. Yea or Nay?

Padre Serra was not perfect but he established Christianity in California. I understand the concerns about Serra's harsh treatment of indigenous people in early California. I think St Juniper Serra prays for us as he prayed for the Church in the 1700's.

Baptist not threatened by Pope Francis

Please forgive me if I am distorting Baptist theology but it is my understanding that most Protestants do not believe that Christ is physically present in the bread and wine at Mass. Catholics drop to our knees because we firmly believe that Christ comes to us in the Mass in an extremely...

Baptist not threatened by Pope Francis

Baptists do not believe in the Real Presence of Christ. Catholics have a wonderfully personal relationship with Jesus; its called the Holy Eucharist.

Retired California Bishop Takes Pope's Invitation to Speak His Mind

How can you limit God? Francis teaches that God is revealed through people. What is more important, feeding souls or denying those who thirst?

Retired California Bishop Takes Pope's Invitation to Speak His Mind

Francis, like Benedict and those they follow are touched by the holy Spirit, I believe. I have a lithograph by Fritz Eichenberg depicting Christ standing among poor hobos. The revelation of God takes on human flesh. Pope Francis reveals the Gospel. I have been greatly inspired by nuns who...

Pope Francis "Personal Relationship With Jesus Is Dangerous And Harmful"

To be cut off from the Church means a "personal relationship" with Christ. I can only imagine the Christians captured by ISIS; their prayer life and each other is all they have.

    The Pope and the Crucifix

The image of the crucified Christ is unique to the Pope's staff/ crosier, I believe unlike other bishops. The symbol of Christ among us as Francis brings holiness to America. The communists in Cuba taking holy Communion is the powerful testament to Jesus. Like holy Francis, our pope reveals...
