Bishop Curry Invited to Preach at Royal Wedding

It was unbelievable. I went there on Friday too and it was such a party. Windsor looked absolutely amazing with everything in bloom, and curiouslly no pot holes! The last time I remember the same atmosphere of jollity was during the Olympics in 2012.

    Role of Anglican Supreme Governor?

Of course you believe you do. But have you viewed from the lens of a visitor? A one off service is not the same as someone working towards confirmation. Hopefully I have given you something to think about. It’s a kingdom vs covenant thing.

We stand and sit when we are told to, but don’t do any of the other things in that guide. I am a bit repulsed, if I am honest, at the notion of holy water, and all the dipping with unclean hands. The guide didn’t mention raising your hands in praise, which we actually do, when led by the Spirit.

    Role of Anglican Supreme Governor?

How do you know that your guests who can’t/won’t take part are not a but miffed? Perhaps they are too polite to say. What is the upside of offending people? These guests may not be exposed to a Christian message very often, so it seems senseless to having a brilliant sermon telling them about...

    Knights of Columbus Type Group?

What does KoC have to offer that a church group does not? (It sounds like a men’s drinking club)

basic question about differences in AC

Anglicanism reflects the full breadth of faith of the original and undivided church - scripture, reason and tradition (evangelical, liberal, catholic). IME, individual fellowships reflect all parts of Anglicanism but have an emphasis on one of these values. Evangelicals put a strong emphasis...

    Role of Anglican Supreme Governor?

It would be very unusual to celebrate the Lord’s Supper at a wedding. We wouldn’t do that in our fellowship, as some of the guests may not be Christian. It would exclude them and that would be quite rude.

I think it is more to make Christianity relevant in this generation.

It was hard-Core Anglican. Apart from the national anthem at the end, it could have been in my church. And the guest list, of course.

Even our old folks are gestureless, so I doubt they were drilled in Sunday School back in the 50s.

Bishop Curry Invited to Preach at Royal Wedding

What exactly is a homily? We have a sermon in our church which runs for about 30 minutes. I have only been to church family weddings, and the sermon is about 15 minutes. It might be shorter for “tourists”.

We don’t do any of those gestures in my C of E church or the SEC I go to. I would say it’s quite rare.

Camilla could become Queen, but at the moment, public opinion would not allow this. It’s nothing to do with constitution or church.

    Role of Anglican Supreme Governor?

It’s up to the incumbent as to whether they will marry a divorcé. Canon law allows this.

The Prince of Wales did not marry in church. It was a civil ceremony.

    A discussion with STR members

I don’t really understand this thread. Where I am, we are in a Diocese, in the province of Canterbury, in the Church of England, in the Anglican Communion. And I love it, warts and all. I struggle to understand why anyone would want to break away from this great blessing of God. As a human...
