Are you ready for retirement, financially?

Hope you don't mind me clipping your post a bit. There is a lot of wisdom in what you said. Some of the most unhappy people in the world are also the wealthiest. An old gentleman many years ago said the key to happiness is not having too much or having too little, I believe there was a great...

question on alcohol and sin etc

Let me give you an example, we know many planets are actually millions of light years away. The light we can see from them took millions of years to get to earth. The Catholic church taught that the earth was flat for hundreds of years. They are the ones that gave us the bible we have today...

Are you ready for retirement, financially?

I looked at retirement as leaving paid endeavors, but not stop staying busy. I can always find someone that needs a little help. I have developed more hobbies as well. One thing I have found is if one asked God to send opportunities to help others He will, and the blessing that come from that...

Are you ready for retirement, financially?

I'm a baby boomer that retired seven years ago, and I'm very fortunate to have a decent retirement. Problem is too many of my generation didn't plan for it and lived beyond their means. I was taught to live on eighty percent of my income, give ten to God and invest ten. I'm so thankful I took...

question on alcohol and sin etc

I think most of us find the things Jesus did amazing, ever try walking on water. Well we know the universe took much longer than six days, actually millions of years, that is a scientific fact. If your genius theologian believes in the six day creation he isn't a genius. There are some problems...

question on alcohol and sin etc

A bottle of wine will last me a week or more. Never more than a small glass with dinner. Everything in moderation.

Watering down wine, that sounds terrible to ruin good wine that way.

Let me give you a lesson out of cognitive therapy, "Doc, I feel awful when I drink a lot". Doc "Then don't drink a lot."

question on alcohol and sin etc

I find it interesting that someone could even guess at the alcohol content of the wines in biblical times. Today wine making is a science, everything from soil content, weather, irrigation and time of fermentation effects the quality of the wine. Not only that one can make wine out of other...

I don't want to live forever

I came into this late, but just a thought. I don't agree with Maslow's pyramid. The problem with it is if one of your lower needs is unattainable the belief is that the upper needs can't be dealt with. I understand where he was coming from, but when you encounter a roadblock, you go around...

Why are there so many different Bibles?

Thank you, where did you come up with Canadian Troy Evangelical, now that is funny. Yes, got my shots, still in church, and don't travel as much as in the past, actually still working once with people once in a while.

I'm curious, what makes you think that mental help professionals don't work, and what qualifies you to say that? Reality is they have a tremendous track record of helping people. I don't discount that reality of demonic activity, but one needs to open themselves up to it. Normally this happens...

Why are there so many different Bibles?

Wow, thanks for the history lesson. Interesting you mentioned the Gnostic writings. I've read most of them that has been translated into English. What I like about them is I can fill in the blanks with whatever I want, just kidding, I think. According to many that know me I'm a heretic, go to...

Have a question about pictures and names.

Thanks everyone for your opinions. I'm semi retired and pretty thick skinned so I don't need to worry about others not liking my posts, most of my family doesn't. God Bless

Why are there so many different Bibles?

Why all the versions? Theologians need something to do other than writing commentaries.

Have a question about pictures and names.

It is obvious most do not wish to state their real names, or post actual pictures of themselves. What I don't understand is why? As for me I believe being transparent would help us connect with others in a more meaningful way.

question on alcohol and sin etc

Many times we remove one negative habit only to replace it with another. Believe me, gluttony is actually much more damaging to your health that light or moderate drinking alcohol.

question on alcohol and sin etc

I guess I would ask why you feel guilty about drinking alcohol? Jesus turned the water into wine, that is good enough for me. Drunkenness' is a different story, it will hurt you physically, mentally, and spiritually.

There are many different therapist. I would seek out a therapist that uses cognitive therapy. Your depression seems deeper than can be dealt with on a open forum.
