    Which bible are you reading?

I use the HCSB and the NLT. Have to admit the NLT is my favorite and preferred translation.

    New and investigating WoF

Hello, I've been a Christian for nearly 6 years and attend a Calvary Chapel church in my area. Recently I've become interested in WoF. My friend introduced me to Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer (I don't know if they actually considered WoF) but I love what they teach. I've heard about them and WoF...

Help with Hebrews 2:6-8 and Psalm 8:4-6

I am reading through Hebrews using the NLT and Hebrews 2:6-8 is translated: 6 For in one place the Scriptures say, “What are mere mortals that you should think about them, or a son of man that you should care for him? 7 Yet you made them only a little lower than the angels and...

    Daily Bible reading

I alternate between books in the OT and NT. I start with reading Genesis and when done I'll move on to Matthew...then back to Exodus, then Mark and so on. I find reading it this way I am able keeps me from feeling "stuck" in the OT and with alternating with the NT I have learned to see how the...

    Bible for Beginners

The HCSB is a very good translation. For a beginner you can also read the New Living Translation. If you come across confusing portions of scripture in the HCSB you can compare them with the NLT to gain more understanding. If you go to Biblegateway.com you can compare multiple translations.

What translation of the Holy Bible is your favorite?

After reading many translations, NKJV, ESV, NASB, KJV, Amplified, NIV...turns out that the NLT is my absolute favorite translation. I love the clarity of the translation and imagine that the hearers of the text in Bible times would have understood the scriptures with such clarity. They wouldn't...

    How to Refute Jehovah's Witnesses

I was born and raised a Jehovah Witness...so for nearly 30 years this was all I learned. The thing is original Bible language (Hebrew,Greek,Aramaic) is not taught. JW's trust the translators of the NWT to be qualified and accurately translate their Bible...so for them, what it says in the NWT is...

    The Amplified Bible

I actually have been using the amplified as my main bible. I love how it expands versus and goes deep into the scriptures. It also causes me to slow down and really think about what I'm reading. I do use the NKJV and NLT for comparison. I'm not WOF and attend a Calvary Chapel.

    Love Joyce Meyer

I'm glad to see that some here like Joyce. It's nice to meet like minded people :)

    Love Joyce Meyer

I've been watching Joyce Meyer for about a year now, even read a couple of her books. I just love her, she is so down to earth and practical. She's really helped me grow in my walk with the Lord. I'm curious to see who around here also appreciates her ministry.

What do you think of the ESV and NASB?

I feel exactly the same way. The ESV is a fine translation but when I sit to read it I just can't get into it. It just doesn't speak to me, I don't get it either. I love the NIV, I read the updated version. When I read the NIV so many scriptures speak to me.

What do you think of the ESV and NASB?

I use the NIV 2011 and really like it. It's just so clear to me. I find many of the "problems" people find with the NIV 2011 are basically a lack of knowledge of how translation works. I'm not saying I'm an expert but when I come to a passage that makes me wonder why they chose to translate it...

What do you think of the ESV and NASB?

I keep trying to read the ESV but I just can't get into it. It's a fine translation but just doesn't speak to me. I've found that I love the NIV and Amplified, I seem to get the most out of these two translations. Too bad though cause Crossway sure knows how to make really nice Bibles.

What is/are the basic, simple principles, single premise, that we can all agree on?

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8, 9 NASB)

    New Living Translation

Since the KJV topic is persisting I'm going to take the opportunity to ask how you feel about the NKJV since it is the translation I'm currently using and my church preaches from. It doesn't have any "missing" versus. Should I just stick with that?

    New Living Translation

Knowledge Bomb: Thanks for taking the time to respond and share that info with me but honestly I'm not interested in the KJV. I've never believed in the KJVO doctrine/belief. And this thread wasn't meant to be yet another discussion/debate about the KJV.

    New Living Translation

Hi everyone, I've recently discovered the NLT and have been reading it. I have to say I'm quickly falling in love. I use the NKJV since that is what my church uses to preach from, I also use the ESV on occasion. I love the simplicity of the NLT though and I'm considering making it my main...

How do you speak to athiest?

I haven't read all the other posts so I'm sorry if what I'm about to say is a repeat. My sister and brother-in-law are atheists. I don't debate with them or try to convince them of anything. I've learned long ago that they (and most other atheists) want to intellectually debate you and aren't...

What Bible translation(s) do you prefer?

My church uses the NKJV so I was using that along with the ESV. I've recently began reading the NLT and really love it. I have a high reading comprehension so the NKJV and ESV aren't difficult for me per se but I love reading the NLT and just "getting it" the first time I read. For example...
