Is the Easter Bunny the Devil in Drag?

Well, I just read something someone posted (elsewhere) about how we have compromised the Gospel by tolerating and welcoming the Easter Bunny in our paschal celebrations culturally. The individual seems to think all Christians to have sold out to the world who in any way promote, tolerate or...

Is the Easter Bunny the Devil in Drag?

This keeps me up at night. How far should we seek to change a culture's stories, practices and overall essence when evangelizing ig?

How far can we go in agreeing with each other

We do many threads in which we display our differences. I'd like this thread to be different. If someone posts something you disagree with, try to restate it as much as you can agree with in terms of your own theology. If there is an important distinction to be made, try to make it using the...

    The theology of cooking.

Get used to disappointment. Ok, ok.... 1. Tomatoes are, AFAIK, not mentioned in Scripture. Does that mean they are unScriptural? 2. People refer to the 'meat' of a tomato. What I want to know is, is that KOSHER meat? 3. I spent at least 4 seconds thinking up research I am now...

    The theology of cooking.

You rang? :) All things are allowed but not all are profitable. All things are made by God: what He has declared to be clean is good. Gluttony is bad. Sharing with others is good. Withholding food or drink from the poor is to do that to Christ. I don't eat meat with the blood, more out...

    "Without a cause"

And it is practically the definition of circular reasoning: you believe A because of B and you believe B because of A.

    "Without a cause"

It does not. AND I AM NOT A JW!!!!!! QUIT ACCUSING PEOPLE WHO DON"T AGREE WITH YOU OF BEING JEHOVAH WITNESSES They are the ONLY ones who use the NWT and you are attempting guilt by association, you are bringing in non-Orthodox beliefs into this forum every time you mention the NWT and I...

    "Without a cause"

Actually there is strong manuscript evidence both for the absence of "without cause" and its presence. If you are arguing from your doctrine that a verse must be such-and-such, and then base your doctrine on the verse being the way you think it should be, that is circular reasoning.

    A thought about saint Thomas.

Sounds very Lutheran to me: theology-of-the-cross stuff. I like it and appreciate you posting it.

A Look at The Manuscript Evidence for John 6:47

Some manuscripts include 'in me' (for example, the beloved but out-dated Kings James Version) and some do not (NASB). What to make of it? I have two responses. 1) It makes no doctrinal difference whether the phrase is there or not. It is clearly implied from the context. It is a...

The Septuagint vs. The Masoretic Text

Agreed. I thought I would chime in a little about NT usage of OT materials. Several years ago I dug out every NT quote of a psalm and looked at the LXX. In many cases it is indisputable that they were quoting LXX, in other cases they were using something else, whether Hebrew, an Aramaic...

Obtaining the Words of a Verse for a Translation

Allow me to make a distinction between translation and interpretation - the one deals with changing the words into another language, the other the meaning. And words in one language do not map exactly to another language. And NT Greek is notorious for leaving out words - Gregory Nazienzen is...

Obtaining the Words of a Verse for a Translation

As someone who loves the Greek New Testament and reads in it daily, there are several threads currently in place that are dismaying to me, as they seem to stem from a misunderstanding of the textual situation. I'm going to address the New Testament here, as the OT is really beyond anything I...

The KJB and NWT disagree in many places but new versions side with the NWT in many

1611, 1769 or what other edition of the KJB is being held as the standard, and why? It has been revised several times in the course of its history to update the language. Today there is the Revised King James Version. Why or why not is that acceptable?
