    A difficult question

I have three daughters (and sometimes I wish they were hypothetical) but you hit the nail on the head AA. That and a dose of knowing when to let them stretch their rebellion muscles. It also helps to keep a keen eye on what they are learning in their religion classes. Regards.

    Active vs Contemplative

St. Ignatius Loyola wanted all his men to be "Contemplatives in Action". I like that. He wanted his companions to be busy, vibrant, active men refreshed by the deep wells of contemplative prayer...now that makes for holiness in the religious life.

    Active vs Contemplative

Merton often complained that the Trappist lifestyle at his abbey was too active. That was one of the reasons he sought permission to have a hermitage. Realizing that both the active and contemplative ways are special and distinct callings (I'm not getting into any 'which is better'...

Should I be Republican or Democrat?

One reason I am watching the Democratic National Convention is to remind myself why I will not vote for Kerry. The Monday night presentation by the president of Planned (Abortions) Parenthood was disgraceful and disgusting. Any reflections on little Ronnie Reagan's speech regarding stem-cell...

What can I call you without insulting someone?

OK I ADMIT IT! I am a radical Romanist/Papist involved in lots of popery. Whew...glad I got that off my chest....now off to morning prayer.

Father Joe: The man who saved my soul

The Times Book Review turned me off. It sounded like an apologia for lost soul who is content just to be hanging on. Excuses, excuses. No real commitment to our historic catholic faith.

How 'attached' are you to your priest ?

Is it normal to be this 'fond' of your priest ? I don't know. I pray for the transfer of my pastor every day. I envy the quality pastoral care you and your parish have received.

Is the Priesthood/religious life a higher calling than marriage?

Both ways of life, priesthood/religious life and marriage, have their own unique joys, struggles, and difficulties. We could all make a list and compare notes. Actually I was going to, but I thought better of it . Then I was going to compare how I and my family live to my parish clergy, but...

Is the Priesthood/religious life a higher calling than marriage?

Ever wonder why we might be? Or is that better left unsaid? ;)

    Anyone else find this creepy...

This is the last straw for me. I'm a card carrying Republican since 1978 and would someone please tell me how the OP serves the purpose and mission of Christianforums.com or OBOB? Have we nothing better to discuss than this nonsense? Childish to the extreme and makes us look foolish.

    Who is Andrew M. Greeley?

Fortunately Greely never claimed his books were 'spritual' in the the sense that they would be pondered over like the work of St. Francis de Sales. Catholic authors in general have there own special characteristics...the violence in Flannery O'Connor, the moral dilemmas human beings face in the...

    Who is Andrew M. Greeley?

Beacause there are none. He has never denied ONE doctrine of the Catholic faith. He may have questioned certain areas of church discipline but that hardly puts him in the ranks of the heterodox.

    Who is Andrew M. Greeley?

I agree. Of course it's not like reading Brideshead Revisited or Flannery O'Connor but it is compelling enough for a good summer read.

Catholics- Is your Church called Saint Marys?

St. Francis Xavier is my 'official' parish. But I choose the worship at St. Agnes in NYC for the indult Mass.

    Patron Saint...whats yours?

St. Francis is my patron saint. I was confirmed in the 4th grade (back in the 60's) and I figured anyone who was kind to animals was cool with me. Turned out to be a very good choice.
