    Is Discipleship the Solution?

YES! This is exactly what I say. You sin everyday as well. You are guilty of parsing sin yourself - something you accuse me of doing later on the in post. 1 year, 10 years, 1 day...whats the difference? You are applying a humanly standard to the Scriptures. Also, notice your horrible...

    Is Discipleship the Solution?

I sinned today. I will sin again. I do not lead a defeated life nor am I slave to sin. Since I have been covered by the blood of the Lamb sin has no power over me. Of course I hate sin and I hate sinning. When I do sin I need to ask for His forgiveness so we can have a right relationship. But...

    Is Discipleship the Solution?

The reason that I said I was "probing" your theology in the last reply it's because that's exactly what I'm doing. I've been reading some things in your comments that lead me to believe you and I are on totally different ends of the spectrum theologically. In regard to the section quoted...

    Is Discipleship the Solution?

Your point is well taken. I probably over stated my position on the idea that I think the church is good at getting people saved. I would clarify by saying the church undertakes evangelistic efforts are deal more seriously than discipleship efforts. Thanks for the reply

    Is Discipleship the Solution?

Bob, You've said a lot here and I just want to probe your theology a bit. Would you assert that since the day Paul got saved on the road to Damascus, that he never sinned again?

Is the Tithe Mandatory to New Testament Christians?

I believe it is mandatory. The Old Testament scriptures aren't irrelevant however I will admit that it may be difficult to apply the proper hermeneutic. I'll touch on this briefly. Christ said he came to fulfill the law not abolish it. The many Old Testament laws were instituted to keep the...

    Is Discipleship the Solution?

Bob, Two questions: 1. According to your interpretation of scripture, when do believers receive the spirit? 2. I have noticed you referring to our fleshly nature. I have also noticed your comments about how believers cannot practice sin. Are you saying that for believers it is an...

U.N. blasts Vatican in sex abuse report, demands that Catholics drop opposition to...

I'm not Catholic but I for sure feel as though the Catholic Church gets way too much bad press and is often singled out and "pestered" and even persecuted. What other religious organization has to deal with so much negative attention? All of the other religious practices of other faiths are...

    Is Discipleship the Solution?

Bob, To answer your question: of course it's the same spirit. But let me ask you: did Christ not suffer on the cross? Did He not ask that the cup be passed from Him? Obviously we have very different ideas about the spirit and how it manifests itself in the life of believers.

    Sinners prayer?

I have read through the thread to date. So is your point that the sinner's prayer is ineffective in saving people? And that adherence to the commandments is the only effective means of salvation?

    Is Discipleship the Solution?

There is no doubt that the Holy Spirit empowers believers. But what you suggest I do not think lines up biblically. The scriptures pretty much guarantee that followers of Christ will have struggle, hard times, so on and so forth. Having the Holy Spirit is not a guarantee of happiness. It's a...

    Is Discipleship the Solution?

Great points and I would agree with all of the measuring sticks. Thanks for the reply. Good luck in school. God bless.

    Agreed wholeheartedly.

    Is Discipleship the Solution?

While I agree that the power of the Spirit should not be discounted, I think some believers have over-relied upon the experiential high of Spirit's power. In other words, we have made the power of the Holy Spirit something that's not. When I think of the power of the HS I think of the fruits...

    Is Discipleship the Solution?

I believe that there is a problem with the Church in America. I think this problem is is a lack of discipleship in our churches. This shows in many ways: a general ignorance of the Word, lack of foundational knowledge, lack of discipline, and worst of all, lukewarm attitudes toward anything...

Cleaning House - What would you do

I say if it bothers you or causes you to stumble then feel free to get rid of it. From the sound of it, it doesn't seem like you "worship" these things as actual idols. Things collected from the past that have no meaning beyond being decorative are, in my opinion harmless. The thing that is...

Do you vote in presidential elections

Yes, I vote in as many elections as possible, especially in presidential ones. There seems to be a lot of discussion whether believers should or should not vote for secular leaders who do not lead Biblical lifestyle or who are not themselves believers. Sometimes I think we Christians tend to...

    Does Indy Baptist EQUALS KJVOnly?

I attend such a church and while only the KJV is used in the Pulpit (most times) it's not and enforced standard. Our pastor certainly has never preached that the KJV is the only way to go. When preaching myself I've used the NKJV and no one noticed lol. The youth pastor once preached out of the...

    What would you do if...

Thanks for the responses (from all). The question of what exactly the vestments are mean to do or symbolize is really the heart of question. So I'm pleased how the thread has developed. I've held the views expressed above - that vestments are usually intended to make a distinction between...
