    Yet another "new visitor" post

Polite is a plus I suppose. Unfortunately I've caught the flu - does it ever come on quickly - so I truely hope I can make it next week. Prayers of healing would be most welcome, of course.

    Yet another "new visitor" post

I generally do sit in the back, but usually so people can't see me, not so I can see them. I guess it works both ways. :) The UMC of my youth (I am 31) wasn't very liturgical, in fact, it was like the "creative UMC", and the one I attend now is (so yes, it's rather odd that I'd want to try...

All I can say is that I wear contact lenses so I don't have to wear glasses....

    Yet another "new visitor" post

Sorry for creating two new threads in two days, but that happens sometimes, I guess. I am seriously contemplating visiting one of the (numerous) TEC churches this weekend. It turns out I am moving soon so the lack of more conservative Anglican churches here hopefully won't be an issue anymore...

    How to answer this?

Wow, MKJ, thanks! And everyone else, of course. I am pretty science minded, so history is just not something I like to willingly delve into. :) Of course, sometimes it's necessary...

    Pranked?

Three years we'd just moved into a new house and I was happy to be finally settled and unpacking. I made the mistake of making a comment about how I was looking forward to not moving again for a while and couldn't wait to go to the beach that summer. So like any loving husband would do, he...

    How to answer this?

I recently mentioned to my (RC) husband that I was looking into the Anglican Church. His snotty reply? "Why would you want to join a church that was started because someone wanted a divorce?" Maybe I'm unfamiliar with some part of Anglican history, but, well, it seems like he's got a point...

Shaking hands - yes or no?

Shaking hands at church just seems strange to me. I don't have any problems doing it in the business world, but at church it just seems forced. Thankfully my church doesn't do it. I think Lillamb's example is a good idea.

How Do I Find an Orthodox UMC?

In my experience, getting out of Chicago helps.

Husband told me I'm "not saved"

According to the RCC, Jesus did, in Matthew 16:18. BTW, I love Romans 10:9. I know there's conflicting verses regarding baptism and such, but I love how comforting it is. I have. He all but called me a wh-ore - telling me I am "fornicating" and my soul is at risk unless I get married...

Husband told me I'm "not saved"

Well, there's been no excommunication talk. His priest is just encouraging us to make it right, but I just can't go through with it - that's a whole 'nother issue, though. Meh. I get what you're saying, but I still don't like the information. Obviously we are all saved by God's grace, but...

Born Christian, Went awhile 'claiming' Atheist.

God never stops loving us, and will accept us time and time again. I don't think you have anything to worry about. :-)

Husband told me I'm "not saved"

Membership with the Roman Catholic Church. That's what they teach, although they admit that other Christians might be saved by the grace of God through the Catholic Church.

How do you keep your mind on God?

Put a reminder on your phone every afternoon. Whip out a short (5-10 minute) devotional. Eventually you'll look forward to it and that will help keep your mind on God.

Husband told me I'm "not saved"

It was done in a Christian church without permission of the Catholic Church which I didn't find out was required until after. Why should I be expected to even know such things? I wouldn't have gotten married in the Catholic Church anyway, but the fact is, he didn't even tell me it was required.

good ol baptist boy has been taught,,

Ditto to the above. Alcoholism runs in my family as well, yet oddly, I've never had a problem stopping at one - or two, at a very long dinner, night out. Drinking does NOT have to lead to drunkenness and the things that sometimes follow. It's simply not risk-taking for everyone. Remember, if...

So according to this, my husband is correct. Thanks!

Husband told me I'm "not saved"

His priest said it best: "You're getting screwed because he decided not to follow the rules when you got married and has since become more devout, so you get punished. That's just the way it is." Gee, um, thanks. Look, I believe I am saved, at least when I go back and read the Bible. That...

Ok silly question but here it goes...

Ahhhh....I just want to point out that the strapless dress above is INCREDIBLY low and not typical of many strapless gowns. I stand by my first comment that sleeves or lack thereof don't make a dress modest. Look, I was married three years ago, so this is fresh in my mind and the styles are...

Husband told me I'm "not saved"

But wouldn't that apply to RC's as well? Or is it taught that they are saved simply by virtue of being RC? I'm not trying to debate, just confused.
