    Rally Day 2020

Our church plans to go ahead rally day this year. We have a small Sunday School group (less than 10) and a large room to have it in, so we aren't worried about children being too close together. However, our usual carnival is out because it would involve too much sharing of equipment and...

    Lent observations and holy week?

Ok, and what does that mean in relation to my question?

    Lent observations and holy week?

I'm writing a story about a couple. He's Lutheran, and she's Baptist, and it's coming on lent in the story, and while it's not meant to be a religious book, I'd like it to be accurate. Based on what I've seen, Baptists for the most part don't observe Ash Wednesday. Is this correct? What about...

Thanks for the information. This is basically what I thought but wanted to know for sure.

How often do you wear the cross?

I wear mine almost daily. I take it off to shower and then it goes right back on. Sometime during advent I might switch to an angel as it seems to go with the season but then after Christmas or by lent at the latest, I'll switch back.

    Church clothes?

I just had this conversation with some of my Sunday school kids. One commented to another that his t-shirt wasn't church appropriate. (It was Angry Birds...no negative or foul content) Another teacher and I pointed out that it's better to come dressed as a slob (not the term we used then) then...

    What are for...

What are the paraments (Sp?) for? I know they decorate the alter and chancel and change color with the different events in the church. Do they have any other purpose? Any significant meaning?

    Prayer before meals?

Growing up we said "God is great. God is good. Let us thank Him for our food." When I got married my husband used to say an impromptu grace each meal. When our son started to join us we started to use the Come Lord Jesus one so that we could all be participants. (Due to developmental delays it...

    Since LCMC is moderate...

I don't see where LCMC is listed for either forum. Which should it be under? That's up to the forum admin to decide. The liberal side: 1. Allow women pastors 2. Allow open communion The Conservative side: 1. Pro-life 2. Against same sex marriages 3. Against gender neutrality of God 4. Against...

    1st LCMC visit

That's great to hear. It's always wonderful to feel welcome at a church. My own church is the same way.

    church website

You probably will want to Google "how to list a website on Google" and then click on the webmaster tools link. I'd post a link but I don't have enough posts yet. I know when I started a website the server that hosted it offered tools for registering with many of the common (at the time) search...

    Question about communion

The LMCS church I used to work at asked non-members to speak to an usher if they were interested in receiving communion. Since I only attended service a few times I never discussed with them what was needed. I don't know if I would have filled the prerequisites since I was ELCA at the time. I...

How do you like to dress for church?

I dress comfortable so I'm not being distracted by my clothes. I dress casually not jeans usually but slacks and a top. I avoid skirts because I teach preschool age Sunday school and have some lively ones. I'm thinking about wearing running shoes because I have one that often tries to take off...

    Religion or relationship?

Sorry I haven't been back in a while. We're farmers and harvest started early this year so we had to rush to get things going. I want to thank you all for replying. I see that the Lutheran church does put more emphasis on ceremony than on a relationship. I see I will have much pray and...

Man must be present at Sunday School opening?

I'm not LCMS so I can't answer on whether or not it's mandatory per LCMS. But I will say, even if people here say it's not a denominational requirement you should still check with your pastor or council to make sure it is not something that is a requirement of your congregation.

    Religion or relationship?

I wanted to let everyone know that even though I haven't responded, I am still following this thread. I'm still praying about a response.

    Introverts in the church

I am a loner too. I'm very introverted. When I was in school the professors' said the people who came into church last minute, sat in the back, and left right away were often the ones who complained the curch was unfriendly. Perhaps this is something he's trying to encourage loners to avoid. I...
