    Was Jesus betrayed by Paul?

What if Paul never stopped being the Pharisee and he figured out that the best way to corrupt The Way as taught by Jesus was to have a "conversion", join the apostles, and then wander around starting churches based on doctrines he invented that slowly replaced the Gospel? The Gospels weren't...

    Reading/preaching the Word of God

I'm referring to questions 156, 158, and 159 of the WLC here. In Q 156, it says that "Although all are not permitted to read the Word publicly to the congregation...". Then, in Q 158 and Q 159, it is talking about preaching the Word of God. Is reading publicly different from preaching, or can...

    Joined a Presbyterian church yesterday

It was an all-weekend event culminating in an interview with three Elders to see if I had a "credible testimony of faith". Much different than joining the UMC was many years ago when the only qualifier was a pulse. It's PCA, BTW.

    So long. It's been fun!

I sent an email to my pastor today, resigning my positions and leaving the church. So, I'm not a Methodist anymore and I'll be moving to a PCA church. I've enjoyed our discussions and learned a lot. I'll lurk about, but probably won't post here anymore since I'm not a member of this faith...

    UMC Certified Lay Minister

Anyone ever encounter one of these? It's a relatively new thing, created in 2004 to bridge the gap between a Certified Lay Speaker/Servant and a Licensed Local Pastor. Certified Lay Minister - GBOD | Equipping World-Changing Disciples

    Becoming a Lutheran

I've been wanting to leave the United Methodist Church for about a year, but for a variety of reasons, just haven't done it yet. I wasn't sure if I wanted to give up on all the mainline denominations because I'm leaving the UMC for reasons unrelated to theology. I just disagree with the way...

    Changing churches

How do you pastors do it? I'm leaving my church in the next couple of weeks. I need to get out of there for my own spiritual health, but I have so many good friends that I'll be leaving behind. I've heard that when clergy leaves a church, you aren't allowed to initiate contact with anyone in...

    Christian unity and the Eucharist

The local Catholic Church had a Prayer Service for Christian Unity on Tuesday. They invited all of the churches in the immediate area to attend. I went with six other Methodists. It was a beautiful service and I really felt the Spirit at work in that place. But, as the priest went through the...

    Pastor Discretionary Account question

For the UM clergy out there: Do you have a discretionary account that you can use to help people discretely? If you do, do you control the money or do you write checks and pass them off to a committee of laity to sign (and therefore, approve)?

    Visiting a Wesleyan Church

I've been thinking of breaking away from the UMC lately, but want to keep my Wesleyan theology. I found out a few weeks ago that there's a Wesleyan Church just a couple miles from my house. I'm going to give it a try tomorrow.

    Questions for staff

One leg of Wesley's Quadrilateral is Reason. We discuss things. Sometimes, we even argue. When we have differences in beliefs or opinions, we don't throw the dissenter out of our church. This is one reason why I am a Methodist and not a member of a "believe exactly as we believe, or get out"...

"Seeker of Truth" or "Defender of Belief"?

Which are you? In the world of social media, everyone falls into one of the two categories. The Seeker of Truth has a desire to learn something, solve a problem, or make something happen. The Defender of the Belief wants others to join him in his belief and tries to form a hive around that...

I wish I was an evangelist

My neighbor's 3 year old granddaughter has a reoccurring tumor in her brain. Back in February, they removed it and she was in the hospital for months. Almost as soon as she came home, it came back. Its in an area now where it is inoperable, but they are treating it with mild chemo until she's...

Can an Internet forum spread the Word of God to people today?

We live in a nation that communicates by text messages, Tweets, Facebook posts. Most emails you receive (and possibly send) are abrupt, to-the-point, and carry no emotion (unless you add some ;)). A lot has been said in the news this week about some cultures within the American culture not...

Book club: A Plain Account of Christian Perfection

We're going to read and discuss "A Plain Account of Christian Perfection" by John Wesley. All are welcome to come and read the posts, but if you haven't read the book, please don't comment, except to ask questions. The book is a wonderful thing to read, so I recommend it to all. If you have a...
