Is it a SIN to be unequally yoked to unbelievers?

Sure. Paul, however gives little context as to what unequally yoked means to the Corinthians. This admonishment is so out of context that scholars debate on whether it belongs there, or if it was written by Paul at all.

Is it a SIN to be unequally yoked to unbelievers?

The word yoke is never used again in the NT. As a Jew, Paul would be knowledgable of the OT and the wording within it. If the word unequally yoked is used within the OT, I don't think it is unreasonable to look at that text in order to fully understand the meaning of the word Paul uses. Words...

Is it a SIN to be unequally yoked to unbelievers?

Where does it say this verse only relates to intimate relationships? The word "yoke" is only used here, and is referring back to the Old Testament passage about not yoking two different animals together. If I'm working closely with an unbeliever toward a common goal, is that not like the yoking...

Is it a SIN to be unequally yoked to unbelievers?

That's great, but how does that work practically? Should I quit my job (since I work closely with unbelievers, which is the definition of being yoked), should I not go to family events since I am technically surrounding myself with "disbelief and doubt"? Should all of my relationships become...

Is it a SIN to be unequally yoked to unbelievers?

So then, how does this look practically? Do I quit my job? Step back from lifelong friendships and support systems? If we treat the romantic relationship the same way as the other relationships, then I see that practically as having a skin -deep relationship with every single person in my...

Is it a SIN to be unequally yoked to unbelievers?

Thank you again for your help. I think there is wisdom in what you say about taking a step back and evaluating relationships. I'll be sure to be more intentional with that more often :).

Is it a SIN to be unequally yoked to unbelievers?

I would disagree that I am not yoked with him already. Since the unequally yoked passage does not have to do with marriage specifically, but with close relationships with unbelievers I am technically unequally yoked to him, my friends, coworkers and family since I live life with them and allow...

Is it a SIN to be unequally yoked to unbelievers?

Thanks for your help! I'm really thankful for my family and friends, most of whom support my faith. Those that were negative influences pretty much fell away when I became a Christian (I don't flaunt it, but once the Facebook status changed, silence). If I might ask, how should I deal with my...

Is it a SIN to be unequally yoked to unbelievers?

Totally understood. We've been consistently talking for a year about how my changing values will effect our relationship. We're open to differences, and are trying to build communication skills to take on conflicts WHEN (not if) they rear their heads. We generally work together quite well though.

Is it a SIN to be unequally yoked to unbelievers?

Their reply to this would be that, I might not know how an unbelieving person is affecting my spiritual life. There seems to be some sort of strange focus on my dating relationship as well, which if all unbelievers hate God, wouldn't it be smart to try to alienate me from my friends and family...

Is it a SIN to be unequally yoked to unbelievers?

I'm currently being rebuked for being" my own god" and in "blatant, unrepentant sin" for dating an agnostic theist. For background, I became a Christian 4 years into the relationship. We are not living together nor sinning sexually. He has been extremely supportive of me and my growing in...

    So very angry. Rotten Thanksgiving.

Alcohol is often used to add flavor to dishes, but if it was baked with the rum in it, all the alcohol should have been cooked away. <edit>

    Watch programs with offensive language?

If it bothers you, then don't watch it. I have to confess that I use swear words often, but only where they aren't used to offend or can be taken as offensive. When among my friends who do not swear, I usually will keep the swearing to a PG level. :) Basically, don't cause yourself or other...

Living with Non-Christian boyfriend. In need of HELP!!

See, I have been given the yoked with unbelievers passage many times. The fact is though, it has not been pushed on me for any of the other close relationships I have with non-Christians. I have non-christian close family, my best friend isn't saved (and we work together writing novels), my...

Being in Relationship with a Non-Christian

The unequally yoked passage being quoted has always bothered me. I found Christ while in a long term relationship(4 years at the time) with a deist. While I was called to move out of our shared apartment, I was not called to break up with him because he was not a Christian. My small group would...

Living with Non-Christian boyfriend. In need of HELP!!

I really have no idea what happens if he doesn't become Christian . I think it's likely he won't convert in the next year or so, it might be something that happens when children are introduced if at all. The question here then becomes: 1) is it sinful to marry an unbeliever if I have already...

Living with Non-Christian boyfriend. In need of HELP!!

I understand dating is not in the bible, which is one reason my situation has been difficult to figure out. I've been getting lots of differing advice, my church especially. I think that they would see me being "yoked" with an unbeliever as rebellion against God. Overall, I feel like your...

    Halloween Costumes

I Have a strange relationship with the holiday. Last year, I dressed up as a seductive vampire nurse and went to probably one of the most sinful parties in the city. Through this sinful party and my actions in it, God plucked me out of my lifestyle and saved me. So, speaking from someone who...

Living with Non-Christian boyfriend. In need of HELP!!

Update for you guys! So since I posted this thread a few things have happened. I had the talk with my boyfriend and put all my cards on the table. I expressed my beliefs and need for spiritual intimacy, we then talked about all possible choices we had. It pretty much came down to: - I move out...

Moving Out- Update and New Worries

@ Bfine- Thanks so much for all of your help, I'll focus on prayer and the bible intensely in these next few weeks. We decided to have a weekly public date, which will work for both of us. :) @parsley- I'm definitely using this distance as an opportunity to figure out how I want to live life...
