Shopping for a cassock and surplice.

Anyone know where to get a well made but reasonably priced cassock and surplice? I've seen some cassocks advertised for around $100, but I don't know how well they are made. The ones at our parish for anyone to use are around $400 or so, and they all seem to be a little too short or a little...

    Do you use icons?

Yup. I have a small diptych with Theotokos and Child, and Christ Pantocrator. I keep it next to a crucifix in my home worship area (currently my desk). I gaze at it when praying or meditating sometimes. When funds allow, I plan on getting one of the Harrowing of Hell. I don't believe icons...

Non-Theistic Christian Dean of a Cathedral

This is the sort of thing that really upsets me. From what I can gather about Rev. Hall, he is either a non-theist or is deliberately vague about what he really believes; either way it turns my stomach that a man who cannot witness to the core of our faith is in a position of authority.

description of high broad low church traditions

This. Also, I lean towards the high end of ritual, but it's not the deciding factor of where I worship. If there was a high Anglo-Catholic parish nearby, it'd have to be pretty awesome to draw me away from the broad church parish I currently attend.

Tea Party Group Leader: file call action suit againt homosexuality

I lol'd hard. Seriously though, it's difficult being a moderate of any kind in the US. If you support anything conservative, people assume you're down with lunatics like the tea party. Anything left-leaning and they think you're a pinko-commie. In my opinion both Democratic and Republican...

    Continuing Anglicanism & Divorce

This. I'm not personally familiar with any continuing churches, but I can't imagine you meeting any hostility over being divorced in any church with Anglican heritage and beliefs. I've been through a divorce myself, our parish ( Episcopal) has been integral to my healing from it. That's...

    Modesty in our Churches?

Cleavage is also very distracting to a chalice bearer at an altar rail. I don't usually look around at others during church services, but if I'm serving as chalice bearer I pretty much have to look at everyone at a downward angle, and cleavage can put a man's mind in completely the wrong place...

For those who came to AC/EC from other denominations

Most of my family is Free Will Baptist, I was raised as such. My parents and I attended a non-denominational church with a Pentecostal slant for a few years and that is where I was baptized. As an adult, I drifted from the churches I was raised in, as I never felt like I fit in there, I felt...

    Anglican/Episcopal praying to Mary

I pray the Angelus, and a Hail Mary now and then. It's comforting knowing that the Blessed Virgin and the Saints pray for us. I was raised Baptist (Free Will Baptist) also, there do seem to be a lot more formerly Baptist Episcopalians than you would imagine.

Is anyone in OBOB good with fixing cars? I need help --- My Blazer is giving me fits.

It's not unusual for some vehicles to sit for a month and not start due to battery drain, some amount of current draw is allowable. Jump starting and driving around, contrary to popular belief, will not charge up a dead battery. Alternators are made for maintaining a charge, not charging. It...

Do you pray the Daily Office regularly?

The BCP just feels right. :) Also, praying the 7 offices outlined in most books isn't practical for me, probably for most people. Morning and Evening Prayer are a great way to start and end the day in prayer and scripture. I use the 1979 BCP (the one currently used by TEC) so it has modern...

Do you pray the Daily Office regularly?

I pray the office daily. Well, I miss one now and then. Also I sometimes pray something else from a different book of devotions or hours, but I always go back to the BCP.

    How to answer this?

Also, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, the reason Henry was denied annulment by the Roman church was political. If I remember right they wanted some union between England and Spain, otherwise they handed out annulments like candy to royalty.

    The Virgin Mary

I took it to mean the saints, as the book was compiled and translated by Fr. John McGuckin who is Orthodox. I wouldn't think an Orthodox priest would use 'mothers' in a prayer referencing clergy, but it says in the introduction the book is intended for use by any Christian, so I dunno.

    The Virgin Mary

Its from the Prayer Book of the Early Christians. The book calls it the Seal, and says it's used by some Orthodox to begin the offices, like matins or Compline (i can't remember the Greek names).
