    Bart Ehrman

Thanks for the help Resha and filosofer. A lot of what I have read in this book I can see several holes. It was some of the histroical stuff that got me questioning. I am going to read up on some of these books so I am better prepared the next time I see my friend.

I have never head of any explanation of these issues before. I am presenting the points I read in Ehrman's book and don't know what to think of them. I also have not investigated it further because I am still reading the book. If you care to enlighten me, please do so.

    Bart Ehrman

I'll check out the video. I'll give two examples that concern me about saying that the bible is the "inerrant word of God" Both Mathew and Luke give the genealogy of Christ. I never realized that they are different and trace different lines of how Joseph is related to David. I also found...

    Bart Ehrman

I decided to read his books because I was evangelizing to a friend that is agnostic. He has a problem with Christianity because of contradictions and the historicity of the bible. He reccomended these books to me to read, so I checked them out if the library. The book Misquoting Jesus is...

    Confirmation Verse

In 4th grade we were given our first bible. At that time the Sunday School teacher wrote a different verse in each one. I think by default that became your confirmation verse. However, when you were toward the end of the confirmation process you could change it to any verse you wanted. I...

    Poll: other denominations

Also, that's not entirely true. Calvin did acknowledge some sort of presence. He didn't go as far to say it was just a symbol. My friend is a PCA minister.

    Poll: other denominations

Yes, that's ONE thing that has been brought up several times. Obviously there isn't another denomination that is going to be exactly the same. But when you make a list of similarities and differences, Presbyterian is a lot more like Lutheran than any other.

    Is anyone fasting for Lent?

So it's been a week, I've been good and have only been drinking water and green tea. I sometimes get headaches and I do get hungry usually around dinner time. But I have kept it up and nto cheated. I found drinking hot green tea helps the hunger pains.

    Poll: other denominations

Exactly, that is why the Presbyterian churuch is most like the Lutheran church in America. Both have a "mainline" and "conservative" synod. The PCA is much like the LCMS where the PCUSA is much like the ELCA. This fact alone should rule out RCC and the Orthodox churches Overall the...

What is your current bible study curriculum?

We have been doing The Story all year. Last Sunday we discussed chapter 20, which is the end of the Old Testament. We also started the Alpha program last week. That is going to go from now through May

    Poll: other denominations

No offense, but I think that's a faulty argument because you are judging it only on one thing. The question is what denomination is most like Lutherans. While the RCC and EO believe in real presence there is a whole slew of things that we don't agree with them on and dont practice. I think this...

    Prayer before meals?

I grew up saying Come Lord Jesus be our guest, At this meal may we be blessed. By His hand may we be fed, Give us Lord our daily bread. Amen My oldest is 2 and that was too long for her to learn so she says, "God is great, God is good, let us thank Him for the food. Amen"

    Is anyone fasting for Lent?

Just curious, Do you agree with Christmas and Easter? I'm trying to understand why you would make that statement because all church seasons - Pentecost, Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter are all Bible based. Just as we celebrate Christmas and Easter for specific events that happened in the...

    Is anyone fasting for Lent?

Right now I plan to water fast until next Sunday (March 4th). Then fast Monday-Saturday, eating a small meal on Sundays. So after the initial 10 days, I wont be going longer than 6 days without food.

What Are You Giving Up For Lent?

Do we really go to church to become more conscious of our sin? I think you are taking my words out of context. I was simply using an illustration of someone that has a personal relationship with God and someone that just goes through the motions. But in some ways I do think church helps you be...
