How do Lutherans view Jehovah Witnesses?

Instead of simply ignoring them, try to engage them in conversation. The LC-MS does put out material about JW's. Make sure you know what they will ask and respond by pointing them to Scripture for the truth. We have done this before and onetime a younger member of their group went...

There are Germans ... and then there are other people

The Lutheran Church is actually growing greatly in Africa. At my former church, about 25% of the congregation was actually born in Africa and immigrated to the U.S.

Presence of Christ in the Eucharist

Jesus simply said, "take eat, this is my body" and "take drink, this is my blood." We do not try to explain how this can be, we simply believe what God has told us.

Advice Needed About Quitting My Job Tomorrow

I would be cautious of quitting your job without any notice. Most potential employers will call your past jobs to see how good of a worker you were. By quitting without any notice, you could be opening yourself to a bad review anytime a potential job comes along. Is quitting on the spot really...

Is it a sin to smoke marijuana?

Paul was a different situation. He was told by the government to do something that violated God's law. Which was why I quoted Acts 5:29. "We must obey God rather than men." That stills applies today. If the government asks us to do something contrary to God's law, we must disobey the...

Is it a sin to smoke marijuana?

Romans 13:1-5: Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3 For...

Is it a sin to smoke marijuana?

Smoking marijuana is against federal law and God says we must obey those in authority. The federal law against marijuana trumps the state laws of legalizing it. Just because the federal government might turn a blind eye to states who are okay with it does not make it legal. Until the...

Just for fun: who's cooking what this second day of Christmas?

My family did not have a lot of leftovers, so we made a big pot of buffalo chili for dinner. We will probably freeze some of the ham to be enjoyed later.

How to vote when political parties don't represent your views

Instead of voting for democrat or republican, you can look at the minor parties. Some of them are pro-life and pro-traditional marriage. The only way these parties will grow if people take a chance at vote for them, although it might take years for them to be a threat to the mainstream parties.

Just for fun - tell something odd about yourself

My great-great... uncle was John Smith of Jamestown. There is a town named after one of my great-great grandfathers. Unfortunately, the town has since died. During the Civil War, my family fought on both sides. The story goes that at one battle, two brothers met on opposite sides of the...

    GIFTS, do you believe?

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are definitely still around today. I do believe that they are given out as needed though. A country in Africa, for example, might have more Christians with the gift as healing as they do not have access to the same type of healthcare as in America. The same can...

I am Lutheran because I was raised Lutheran. Taking Christian Doctrine both in high school and at college has confirmed what I was raised to believe.

    Losing Salvation

I think that it is possible to lose your salvation. This can be seen in the parable of the sower where some of the plants were choked by the weeds and other plants grew on the rocky soil. Both of the plants died, meaning they once had their salvation, but then lost it.

    Should I quit my job?

Maybe you will be able to find another part-time job that is more willing to work with your schedule. Just remember that God will provide for your needs.

Signs of Wolves In Sheeps Clothing

Sadly I know of about 3 wolves within a small church. They also all happen to be elders. Their main goal right now is to undermine and destroy the pastor.
