What qualifies me to write on this forum?

Hello and God bless. This was partially addressed in the "hmm" thread, but what does it take for me to qualify as charismatic-enough to post on this forum? I am a Christian, believe in the tongues and believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. At the same time though, I am very skeptical about...

    Happy 9/11

If Osama and Saddam truly did become Christians and convert, we fellow Christians would need to forgive them. This does not mean, however, that they should not still be punished. Romans chapter 13 speaks a little on the role of the government in providing discipline. The two would definitely...

    Christianity and Fascism

Aragorn, I both disagree and agree with your statement that capitalism dressed in the robes of Christianity is bringing the world to utter destruction. If by that you mean that capitalism is bringing the world to utter destruction, I have to disagree. Capitalism seems to me like one of the best...

    Christianity and Fascism

Foolsparade, I've finally grasped your point. Yes, I have to agree that the general populations of western culture have an ingrained desire to be led. However, I also believe that people from eastern cultures, and truthfully, every culture have a need to be led. The only major difference is that...

    Christianity and Fascism

Foolsparade, I have to apologize for saying I gave you the benefit of the doubt. I did not mean it in an insulting or antagonistic way, but I definitely see how it came off sounding that way. I try to never be insulting but I obviously fail, whether I mean to or not. I had guess that you were an...

    Christianity and Fascism

Thank you Aragorn, I'm sorry that I assumed the wrong gender of the American (that's embarrassing). Still, my point was that the person never actually accused of being religiously wrong, though she did accuse you of being politically and even morally wrong. It definitely sounds as if she...

    Christianity and Fascism

Christians are commanded to do this by the Bible (Romans 13:1-7). I used the example of Quakers as a denomination of Christians that are pacifists. There may be other pacifistic Christian denominations that I do not know of, but in many denominations there are some people who believe that war...

    Christianity and Fascism

I was just reading through the posts and I would like to address many of them in this one posting so please forgive the disorder: To all who are saying that examples of corruption in Christians makes the Christian belief fascist, I would have to disagree. To judge a belief system, you must...

How does God feel about those who drink alcohol or smoke marijuana?

Julie, most everyone has quoted Scripture in this debate. What point was I missing? That David saw Bathsheba and wanted her and then had her? Seeing a glass of wine does not make me want it. Also, I think that the true point behind Daniel's refusal of the wine was that he wouldn't eat or drink...

How does God feel about those who drink alcohol or smoke marijuana?

Julie, 2 Samuel 11:2 is not referring to David drinking, it is talking about his lust for Bathsheba. Also, Daniel 1:8 is not just talking about all wine, it is talking about the food and wine which had been offered to idols. Nebuchadnezzar had been sacrifing food and wine to his idols and then...

    What is purgatory???

Trento- I know Jesus was showing us how to pray, but in the way we are supposed to pray he tells us to ask God for forgiveness. I was just saying that in my last post to show that I still believe it is important to ask God for forgiveness even after we are saved. I don't believe that we have...

    What is purgatory???

Yeah, Lion's Heart pretty much hit the nail on the head on that one. I believe that you need to confess your sins to be forgiven, but just the one time when you accept Jesus, acknowledge that you are a sinner and cannot get to heaven on your own, and ask for forgiveness. Still, I believe that it...

    The quest for love

Well, I am not and never have been in love. Don't worry about it though, I'm a little young to have been in love. Anyway, I seriously believe that if it is God's will, He will lead me to the right spouse. I'll admit though that I seriously hope that marriage is in God's will for me. Whatever He...

How does God feel about those who drink alcohol or smoke marijuana?

Peacebestill, In cases like that I don't think marijuana would be sin. I think the point lies in whether the drug is going to act helpfully or harmfully, like I saidin my last post.

How does God feel about those who drink alcohol or smoke marijuana?

No, I don't think taking aspirin is a sin. It takes the argument of the drugs harming our bodies (God's temples) to decide what is wrong. Drugs such as marijuana and cocaine are simply harmful to our bodies, however, medicinal drugs help to preserve God's creation, so I would have to say that...

    faith healers

I agree that it is most important that we have spiritual health, not physical. I also believe that we should use modern medicine, as it is a result of the intelligence that God gave us. Of course, weapons are too, but medicine helps to preserve God's creation. Still, I believe that along with...

    What is purgatory???

Vow, that's a good point. I can't think of any sins that cause immediate death, except maybe suicide. I was thinking along the lines of murder can get you put to death, drugs can kill you, and promiscuity can contract STDs. But your point still stands, all of those take time for the sinner to...

    Holy spirit

I believe that whether or not you speak in tongues, if you have accepted Christ the Holy Spirit works through you. Paul wrote that the fruit of the Spirit are peace, joy, love, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. As far as spiritual gifts go, we find in Romans...

How does God feel about those who drink alcohol or smoke marijuana?

I think that it was a good point to make that although drunkenness and use of drugs are sins, they don't condemn you and they don't separate you from God's love. Each sin is equally wrong, and drug use won't keep you from salvation if you accept Jesus.
