China and Vatican to sign landmark deal over bishops

Yes, but the big difference was those kings were at least nominally Christian. The rulers of China are all Christ hating atheists.

    Have We Ruined RCIA?

What is Mystagogia? I'm a cradle Catholic, so I don't no much about RCIA and never heard of the class afterward. Thank you.

What is the difference between the Oriental Orthodox Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church?

Matt, Can you elaborate some on what was Nestorian in the Malankara OO Matins? I'd be interested as I never heard of Oriental Orthodox having Nestorian elements in their worship or teachings. Thank you.

Pope Says Eastern Catholic Churches Were A Mistake?

To steal a line from Marco Rubio, I think he knows exactly what he is doing.

    Luther Excommunicated

Has the excommunication of a dead man ever been lifted before? I remember when the excommunications on the 4 living SSPX bishops were lifted. I believe Archbishop Lefebvre's was not lifted since he was deceased.

    pulled to eastern orthodox beliefs?

Try finding an Eastern Catholic parish. Despite what some may tell you here, they are not all filled with latinizations. Also I thought it was forbidden to steer people away from the Catholic Church in OBOB. I certainly wouldn't go to TAW and try to get Orthodox to join the Catholic Church. It...

I find in my personal interactions there is still much ignorance of Eastern Catholics

The UGCC published a catechism a few years ago, but I don't know if it has been translated into English. I plan on purchasing it once it is.

I find in my personal interactions there is still much ignorance of Eastern Catholics

I apologize for starting this thread. My intentions were just to make some observations of how some RCs I know still don't have much knowledge of Eastern Catholicism. I didn't intend for this to become any condemnation of the Eastern or Western Catholic Churches. I truly believe in the necessity...

I find in my personal interactions there is still much ignorance of Eastern Catholics

I was raised Roman Catholic, was Orthodox for a few years and am now attending a Ukrainian Catholic Church. I know this is anecdotal, but some people I have come across have misconceptions or don't even know anything about Eastern Catholicism. One woman I work with asked me what parish I attend...

Pope Francis presides over Eastern Catholic Liturgy

I recorded it on EWTN. It was indeed a Roman Rite Mass. I was hoping it would be an Armenian Soorp Badarak, but I'm guessing Pope Francis wouldn't be familiar celebrating the Armenian Rite and that is why the Roman Mass was celebrated.

What are you doing on Good Friday?

I'm hoping to go to Vespers and the procession with the Burial Shroud at the local Byzantine Catholic parish.

    Importance of the Filioque

I agree Gurney that liturgical abuse is pretty much non-existent in Orthodoxy. I am fortunate enough that I have a Latin Mass, and two Eastern Catholic parishes within 25 minutes all at different times on Sunday. If I miss one I can go to one of the other two. I have no problem with the OF...

    Importance of the Filioque

I was raised Roman Catholic, spent some time at a Byzantine Catholic parish, was chrismated Orthodox, left the Orthodox Church and started attending a diocesan parish that celebrates the traditional Latin Mass for a few years. They changed the time of the Mass to a more inconvenient one, so now...

Russia threatens Denmark with nukes if they join NATO defense shield

Last night after the Vesperal Divine Liturgy for the Annunciation, the topic of Putin came up. The priest called Putin a fascist and noted how he invaded Georgia years ago. Now this priest isn't Ukrainian, but a Catholic convert to Orthodoxy. I write this to illustrate that conversion to...

Russia threatens Denmark with nukes if they join NATO defense shield

Actually, the only one in this thread at TAW making excuses for Russia on this is a Catholic.

    Melkite Divine Liturgy

Yes, the Ukrainian Catholic Church uses the spoon for Holy Communion. I meant the Melkites do not use a spoon.

    Melkite Divine Liturgy

I go to a Ukrainian Catholic parish, but I'm friends with a Melkite priest in Connecticut. At his parish the Divine Liturgy is mostly in English with some Arabic and Greek. The style of chant is closer to Greek Orthodox. You are right they give Holy Communion by intinction, but without the spoon.

    Orthodoxy unwelcoming?

I don't think I ever have felt unwelcome in the different Orthodox parishes I have been to. Most people have been very friendly when I would go. I'm very reserved, so if anything I sometimes would feel a little overwhelmed by people wanting to speak to me. lol
