    Men Step Up

Lyndie, I don't think anyone is saying that women should just live with neglect or the silent treatment. What people have been saying is that meta-talk about the relationship and feelings is like a foreign language to men, and it often makes them very uncomfortable. That's not the same at all!

    Men Step Up

^_^ My husband asks the same. He says, "I married you. Shouldn't that tell you something? Shouldn't that make you able to assume some baseline of commitment on my part?" To which I said (yes, this was a real conversation) "but Donald Trump gets married over and over. His wives eventually...

    Men Step Up

Well, my need for meta-talk has nearly destroyed my marriage. I hope and pray that it's not too late, but it's like an addiction. I need to re-learn the ability to feel emotionally fulfilled without it. Yes, I am in counseling. To talk about it! :P But seriously, it's pretty easy for me to...

    Men Step Up

Well, Conservativitynishness, it's interesting to me that this need for meta-talk has developed over time. It's pernicious though, because once the habit/need grows, it's hard to let it go. There are a number of more recent books that make the point (as in your previous posts) that meta-talk...

    Men Step Up

This is really interesting. It's a problem we've had, and I think...oh, I don't really know what I think. To me, deep conversation strengthens the emotional bond. That doesn't have to be talk about the relationship, but I do enjoy hearing about how my husband feels about things or felt about...

    How long did you...

How long did you have to wait for your spouse? 50 years? I don't think your question really makes sense for me. I was married once before, for 18 years. My current and forever husband started courting me when I was 50 and he was 32. Yeah, you read that right. How many past relationships did...

When people tell your wife she's too young to have a baby, she should tell them to take it up with God.

The Man Cave concept ~ Men especially, please comment...

How long I've been married actually has nothing to do with it. Sdmsanjose, you asked how the women here would like your arrangement and I told you. I would not like it, Sam I Am. That's an opinion. It's my opinion, which you asked for. I'm pretty sure I'm entitled to it. ;) My husband and...

The Man Cave concept ~ Men especially, please comment...

If my husband suggested this, I'd tell him I have no interest in living like friends with benefits. If he really wanted that little interaction with me, I'd be heartbroken and angry. Now, each spouse having a room of their own to use as office/studio/workshop? Good idea. Separate bathrooms...

What would you think in this situation?

I'd think that it is clear my husband was not the one who made those calls. If a man has never given you any reason to doubt him, then...why doubt him? That's damaging to you, to him and to the marriage.

How do you and your spouse deal with pretense?

I'm not sure I know what you mean, exactly. If it's what I think, then we sometimes have differing opinions on who is or is not annoying and pretentious. But it's not a major issue for us.

    In the economy of manipulation

Good on you. Here's to peaceful discussion! This is an interesting axis. In my opinion, it is not possible for humans to reach the "good" end of the continuum. We're sinful, messed up creatures. That doesn't mean we shouldn't keep trying. I don't believe I've ever used sex as a bargaining...

What does menopause mean to a married couple?

Well, my reproductive shop has been closed for nearly three years. I go through the occasional bout of insomnia, and now and then I get a hot flash. I haven't experienced any mood swings. From our perspective, it just means that we can have sex without consequences.

What does menopause mean to a married couple?

I don't understand the question. Why should anything "happen" to a marriage when menopause arrives?

Queen. With a king it's like crossing a continent to find each other. :D

Spouses and meeting needs - a different aspect.

Interesting question! I want to think more about it, but my first reaction is to say yes, you're right. If you look at the definition of love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7: then it's pretty easy to see that showing and living love makes us more Christ-like.

    My libido is dead.

Based on the totality of your posts, I'd say you are angry and depressed. I'd say you and your wife need marriage counseling. You're in my prayers.

Men think marriage is more important

This is infuriating, and completely unsurprising.
