Principal fired for showing Michelangelo's David in class about renaissance art.

Don't ever visit Florence then. You can see the original in a museum and a replica in a public square, whatever age you are.

Challenge Thread: Were you wrong about Pluto?

Reminds me of a question we said to each other at school: "Are you a PLP? If the answer was "Yes", response "So you're a public leaning post" If "No", response "So you're not a proper living person" AV1611VET's challenge strikes me as very similar.

Do Tolkien (LOTR etc) and CS Lewis (Narnia) promote witchcraft?

In the Narnia stories Lewis is almost explicit that this is a Christian story. Alan is the lion of Judah - the symbol of God. At the star of The Dawn Treader the animal in the picture is a lamb which, on second glance, becomes Asian. The lamb of God becoming God. What more symbolism is needed!

Jared Kushner has been nominated for a Nobel peace prize

Looking at the criteria to be a person making a nomination there are so many that fulfil the condition that nomination in itself means little. The names of nominees and the nominator will not be revealed by the Nobel committee for 50 years, so we won't know till then whether he actually was...

    Incompleteness, Undecidability, and Uncertainty

Interesting that the associative law does not necessarily hold for computer arithmetic. Add a very large number to a very small number - depending on the precision of the system the result will be like adding zero to the large number. Repeat the process many times - still leaves the result...

    Imperial Measurements in the U.K.

Unfortunately the U.S. gallon is not the same as the imperial gallon. U.S. gallon = .833 imperial gallon. So the U.S. doesn't use imperial measure.

    Cold callers!

The trouble with the telephone preference service is that it does not affect companies abroad. I prefer to string them along as long as possible on the grounds that if they are talking to me they are not scamming some person who is not aware of scams.

    The U.K. & its culture

I think we tend to be more private and feel that a person's political views are not something we would discuss overtly. They might become apparent over time as we get to know the person better. Personally, unless the views are exceedingly to either extreme, it would not affect my liking for them.

    The U.K. & its culture

With exception of a father and son I knew I have been unaware of the political views of people I knew. I suspect that is true of most people. Also we have more than two political parties so it's not right/left.

What creationists need to do to win against evolution.

Further your brain shuts out what your eyes see as they move across the image so you do not see the blur. To test this out get close to a mirror and look at one of your eyes, then at the other and repeat. You won't see your eyeballs move. Your brain has shut off the image whilst your eyes moved...

    Imperial Measurements in the U.K.

The gill is even crazier - it's size depended on where you were so that pubs had to declare in a notice what size they were using - 1/6 or 1/4 pint.
