Whats the diference between The CoG and AoG ?

Jethro, I just saw what you said about "tithe on tithe", and that was one of the reasons my current pastor left CoG, because even though it was something like 2.5%, it was hurting his church. We're currently about twelve strong on weekly attendance. 2.5% may not seem like a lot to a larger...

Whats the diference between The CoG and AoG ?

phydaux, I do have some doctrinal issues with Word Faith, and they aren't minor to me. However, I don't consider them outright apostates either. Some Word Faith churches are decent churches, and don't go too far into the prosperity "gospel". I can work with them on important things when I need to.

What's being taught in our churches? :(

imwildfire, a watered down Gospel, unfortunately. If I actually had the time to remember some of the "christians" I've known through the years, I'd have some similar stories.

    KJV Only?

cardoctor, I'm not actually saying to learn 1600s English before Greek or Hebrew. I'm saying to learn 1600s English to use the KJV. I use the ESV now. The NKJV is a good version for those whom want the traditional English Bible based on the Authorized Version, but the language is Modern...

Whats the diference between The CoG and AoG ?

Phydeux, orthodoxy is obviously not a trivial matter. If orthodoxy were at stake I wouldn't be sitting under a former CoG pastor right now. Polity and a minor difference on the doctrine of sanctification are, however, minor issues. If I disagreed that much more, there's a baptist church on...

John Paul Jackson went to Heaven today.

From what I could find, he was the voice of reason in a movement fraught with many problems, it saddens me to hear of his passing.

Whats the diference between The CoG and AoG ?

The differences are minor doctrinal and polity points. If you are comfortable, nothing to concern yourself over.

    KJV Only?

cardoctor, if people will agree to study English as it was spoken 400 years ago before they nitpick, I'll shut up. But I'm watching people nitpick about words in the Greek, and how they would be translated TODAY, versus how they would be translated by English speakers, from England, 400 years...

    This Article Frighten Me

walking, I'm going to only say this once- I'm going to trust the guys I know have advanced degrees and have studied the Bible for years over someone on a website. And when I have heard close to a half-dozen such men in my life who've all said the same thing, I'm going to stick to my doctrinal...

    Pentecostalism and intellectualism

Well, Jethro, I'd say there are good reasons to at least discourage from attending a secular school, the blatant liberal bias being one of them. Private Christian Schools, on the other hand...

    KJV Only?

People, after some of the arguments I've seen here, I've now moved into a position entirely against keeping a 1611 English Bible for anything other than classical literature. We could talk about the Greek and Hebrew words and Romanizations all day, but riddle me this: Who has actually studied...

If there was no Baptist church to attend.....

If there were neither Baptist nor Pentecostal where I was, I'll hope for LCMS. If there's no LCMS either, I'm screwed.

    The Fifteen

Well, I ended up at their own website, and I find myself wondering why they aren't Independent Fundamentalists. They have valid complaints, but they aren't getting too far because of some of their less valid complaints. They don't like Batterson, got it. Also, one person's comment about C. S...

    Pentecostalism and intellectualism

AGTG, I plan on pursuing my PhD in Theology, for the very reasons you listed. There is so much to learn about the Bible and the history of the Church. A lack of deep understanding of Scripture has hurt the charismatic side of the Church, giving rise to more heresy than all but the most liberal...

    The Fifteen

Can you provide a link with more information please? As for the pop fluff that has been featured more and more in Christian stores, I do agree, it's getting out of hand. I don't need spiritual milk, I need meat. Last time I was in Barne's and Noble's, I was so tempted to do the smart-alecky...

    Pentecostalism and intellectualism

Biblicist, the limitations on the classical Pentecostal denominations are varied. In part, it was the lack of formal education, except for the bachelor's degrees granted to some of the ministers. Another issue has often been the expectation of speaking in Tongues from anyone who is a...

    Obama and the Crusades

Biblicist, as a veteran, it hurts. We got ourselves involved in a fight that has been going on for millenia with no signs of stopping, and now the extremists are taking power. Not even al Qaida wants anything to do with ISIS, that says something. In terms of comparing what is going on over...

    Pentecostalism and intellectualism

The flip side of not having higher education is the likes of Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons. These are denominations founded by men who had no classical education in theology. The grounding that classical education gives has been immensely important in maintaining doctrinal solidity. The...

    Theological Continuity

Jack, to answer your OP, to me 1) Theological continuity speaks to the thread of core beliefs that all orthodox believers have shared since the time of the Apostles until today. I may be a die-hard pre-mil, pre-trib dispensational continuationist who now disdains the use of the KJV in the...

    Philosophy, Art and the Church

Mike, we can look at modern churches, and the effect that technology is having, and see that there is truth here. However, I would contend the basic message of the Gospel itself has always been the same. Philosophy clearly has an effect on how we phrase that message. Paul quotes the Cretan...
