Question for people on the spectrum

Redeemerlives, I agree with you that the more we're able to explain our differences to people, the easier it gets in a lot of situations. I hope and pray that you find the right person for you in your life, someone who is willing to listen and learn and with whom you will know love and acceptance.

Question for people on the spectrum

How old were you when you found out you had Autism or Aspergers? I only knew for sure in my early 40s - there was no such thing much before then, especially for women. Did you suspect you were wired differently than other people/kids? No, I thought I was perfectly normal and they were...

I've seen clips of it - it looks very good and I'm hoping to get it on DVD when it's released in February (mid Feb in the UK I believe)

    Asperger's disease???

In the UK it's called "autism spectrum condition" now, because they've realised it's a different brain design. It's not a disease. I asked the people in charge here if they would consider changing it, but never had a reply (some weeks ago).

    Do I have asperger's?

In the UKk you'd see a diagnostic expert, often a clinical psychologist, but not sure how it works anywhere else in the world. The major autism charities often know where to direct people for a diagnosis, so worth tracking down your nearest one and asking them.

    Questions for Aspies.

-Do you have terrible memory? Only for people. Like most people with an ASC, I don't have a people-recognising centre in my brain, so information about people is harder to find. -Are you very clumsy? Yes, because I'm dyspraxic as well (1 in 3 of us is) -Do you have trouble talking and...

Winter approaches, want to avoid depression

Nope, no idea how to have fun on my own. I really do need other people in my life, so had to work hard at joining in with parent's groups even though I found it very hard work. Have you tried one of those natural daylight lamps you can buy that are supposed to help with seasonal depression?

    Asperger's Syndrome and Ministry

There are lots of church leaders who are on the autism spectrum - whether it's people leading worship, people doing pastoral work, people running the choir or helping with the finance. There are evangelists and preachers and every other sort of leader. And plenty of others who are quiet or...

Please may I ask for prayers for strength and hope?

I have Asperger syndrome - a form of autism. I work as an adviser to churches, trying to help them to understand how to welcome and include those with an autism spectrum condition who are reaching out to God. But it is so difficult for me. People are sometimes so afraid of autism, and I have...

Any tips for communication / social skills?

Goodness, so many things to talk about. Not sure I have good answers to all of them. But I find there are good people in this world who love us even if we're not brilliant at social conversation or eye contact. Those are the true friends. Our job is somehow to tell them that we value their...

    Aspergers adults and romantic relationships

I'm an aspie, married to another aspie for over 20 years. It works very well most of the time, but we've had to learn to communicate in ways we can both cope with, and learn to give each other the space we both need.

Has Aspergers anything to do with devils??

Strictly speaking, it's a different brain design rather than a disease, but yes, I agree with you.

Do you really want a cure?

Personally I have no wish to be 'cured' of being me. My whole way of being is ASC. It is how I see, hear, taste, touch and smell the world - through the brain design that I've been given. It is how I encounter people and understand them. It gives me a faster brain speed, more ability to see...

    Another new aspie Christian

Bron, if you use the internet to search for "welcome those with autism and asperger syndrome" it should take you to the links for an example of the work we're doing for the Anglican church. Many others are now linking to this.

Has Aspergers anything to do with devils??

Nicodemus in the Bible was arguably a man with Asperger syndrome, and became one of Jesus's followers, even being there for him at the burial. He approached Jesus away from the crowds, had a job where rules and regulations would have been very important, couldn't understand metaphors, reached...
