    An Orthodox Perspective on Bonhoeffer

Lutheran Pastor, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, was involved in an unsuccessful assassination attempt on Hitler. The Nazi's ultimately found out, put him in prisons /concentration camps and utimately executed him for this conspiracy plot against the government. As a Lutheran, I understood what he did...

    Technical Issue--CF colors

I reported a problem (well, actually a minor annoyance) in the CF thread reserved for software bug reporting. Need Luther Reference--Snow Covered...?

Chi Rho used to quote a comment generally attribute to Luther which goes something like "In our justification we are like snow covered dung". We are really dung but Christ's righteous covers us with pure white snow and that is all He sees. Would anyone know the source of this quote? I quickly...

    Favorite CF Names and Why

So I am looking at the poll regarding Orthodox Faith icons...checking out all those who see the issue differently from me (which is just about all of TAW!) and I see this name...Thelonliest Monk. And all of a sudden strains of "Blue Monk" begin playing in my head. I nominate Thelonliest Monk...

I have been listening to an unabridged audio of The Brothers Karamazov (I spend a lot of time in my car) and have determined I need a hardcopy to do some follow-up reading. The audio version I have does not mention the translation being used...so I can't simply shop for the same when buying the...

    Nicene Creed Differences Revisited

In an earlier thread I responded to Jim's question… …with this: Unfortunately…this was incomplete information. John Fenton has identified four (4) differences between the Greek and Latin Creed. They are as follows: Greek: “…begotten of his Father before all worlds, Light of Light, very...

Recommendations for Someone Who is Hurting

My sister is going through a very rough time right now. Frankly...her whole life has been rough. She realizes that much of her problems stem from poor choices on her part but right now she thinks that God is angry at her because of those choices. And maybe even thinks He is sending more...

The Purpose of Private Confession in the Lutheran Church

What purpose does the role of private confession play in the Lutheran church? I read this blog article and I see the role as leading one to the Gospel but when Christ absolved the woman at the well He said "Go and sin no more." Would Lutherans agree that part of the role of Confession /...
