Some words on Fr. Seraphim Rose

His grace is very hard to hear. He is currently the vicar bishop for Metropolitan Joseph who oversees the Bulgarian church in North America and Australia. My church is Bulgarian and he comes and gives sermons and speaks so quietly it is crazy

Christians and Libertarians -- Washington Post article

Thomas Jefferson said 'A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take everything you have." The current two party system that corporate media passes off to Americans, and rest of the world, as democracy is farce. It is not democracy. Both parties appear to be hell...

Christians and Libertarians -- Washington Post article

Does every drunk driving incident produce a victim? I can say from experience that it does not. However I think that it in general it is the consensus of the people to provide some sort of incentive to not drive drunk, so if the will of the people is reflected in by the laws of the state than I...

Christians and Libertarians -- Washington Post article

I am a libertarian on for one very basic reason. I believe in free will, this is a fundamental aspect of Orthodox Christianity and it is at the core of libertarian philosophy. ( I know I am chiming in late.)

    Caffeine & Tobacco?

My priest told my wife that cigarettes were satans incense. :) However if you are using tobacco to cope with problems in your soul then you are not allowing God to help you with your problems which is wrong.

    Is this true??!!

That is correct, the hope is to make him a bishop in Alaska. My parish has a very close relationship with the monastery and Fr. Herman (he brought them into Orthodoxy.) Fr Gerasim has hiked all over Alaska last summer winning the hearts of many locals there, despite many local priest and Bishops...

    Converts?

I grew up in a missionary community strongly baptist but called the Independent Fundamentalist Church of America, otherwise known as "The Bible Church." Eucharist Redundant?

I thought I would add some quotes From Fr. Meyendroff’s book Byzantine Theology: “…one never finds the term "essence" (ousia) used by Eastern Orthodox theologians in a Eucharistic context. A term like "transubstantiation" (metousiosis) would be considered improper in...

    Orthodox people supporting non-Orthodox charities

My parish is collecting money during lent for the Redwood Gospel Mission here in my city. One of the deacons wives works there as a book keeper/HR. Granted the director is my father in law and he comes to services at my church as much as he goes to his own church.

    Question about Orthodoxy

Yes it does and sometimes no it doesn't. One example is the symbolism of the deacons and the path they take around the altar and out into the the narthex for the litanies, they symbolize the angels flying around God as depicted in Revelations (as do the acolytes.) In other cases it is an...
