Thoughts on the "safety" of Christianity

Hello! I was hoping we could have a discussion on your thoughts about this issue. I was talking with my brother recently who does not want me to convert to Judaism because he is worried about the afterlife. This is completely understandable and I adore my brother. But it got me...

Something I loved about our services yesterday

Yesterday I attended my first service at a Jewish synagogue. I wanted to share a message that I think you may all really like as much as I did. One of the prayers we did was thanking God for the way He has revealed Himself in all faiths. How cool is that?

    Belief is a funny thing

I have a basic question that I think everyone should own up to at one point or another. Do you believe in what you believe because you believe it? Or do you believe what you believe because it's safe? My brother and I were having a heart to heart and he's worried about my salvation. I can...

Need a quick course in Islam

Hello! My family just moved to a neighborhood that is about 50% Muslim, the other 50% Christian. My family is mostly Christian, though I personally lean more toward the Jewish faith, though I am not Jewish. Our boys have befriended the kids across the street and I thought this...

You know what isn't always fun?

You know what isn't always fun? ...Being the only liberal in a conservative (no not fundie) forum. There isn't anyone to back me up, help me out when I'm backed into a corner. ^_^ LOL! It's fine. Everyone's kind and rather used to me, but sometimes, just every once in a while, I think...

Could I live in a liberal community?

My husband and I may end up moving to Vermont and from we've read it is a very liberal state, possibly the most liberal the US. That was my brother's first comment when I told him of the possibility. I consider myself to be socially liberal, but it's easy to hold the views I hold while...

Why capitalize the pronoun for God/Jesus?

Does anyone know why we capitalize the "H" for "He" when referring to Jesus? I always thought it was out of respect, but then someone asked me why I capitalize it when I don't believe Jesus is God. Does anyone know why we do this?

    My new "hat"

 Hello good liberal Buddies! I've been asked in the Messianic forum about why I changed my faith icon. It was noticed within 5 minutes of my changing it. Because they really do define us, I wanted to explain. I thought I'd offer the same explanation to all of you, because I like to...

Because I don't want to hijack any threads...

I don't want to feel as though I'm hiding anything from anyone, and it has already come up in a thread, so I thought I'd just offer up that I'm open to questions and comments, but they are probably best asked here. I changed my faith icon. I did this because I don't want anyone to ever think...

How do you personally find God?

Do you have God moments? Real God encounters? Or do you blindly follow? I'm truly just curious. I'm honestly a blind follower. I experience God in nature, through goose bumps and the like. But I'm not very good at hearing God's plan for me.

    Letting things go!

I have decided that letting nagging things go can do wonders for the spirit! DH hates yard work. (I do too, so I can't blame him!) But since most of the inside work falls on me, I rather expected him to take care of the outside. Our soil is horrible and we have very bad landscaping to work...

    Lessons in single parenting

My husband returns on Friday! He's been away for a MONTH on business! I am so ready to have him home! At first, honestly, I enjoyed the break. I'm very independent and really like my own space. I got to talk to him on the phone every night and got the bed entirely to myself! No...

Why did Jesus HAVE to die on the cross?

Is it possible that God's original intent was for Jesus to gain all the people as His followers, but when that didn't work the plan had to change? Is it possible that God did not originally send His son to die on the cross? I've been called a blasphemous heretic for this, and would kindly...

Are you doing anything to prepare for Swine Flu?

I'm just curious. I started filling milk jugs with water yesterday. It's a good thing to do for any kind of emergency. We have an un-confirmed case of it in my neighboring town now.

    What holiday is this please?

I remember this time last year I was going to celebrate a Jewish holiday with our children, but the children ended up being away from home, so we weren't able to. It had something to do with staying up all night studying about religion. Does anyone know what this is? I can't remember at all.

    Easter plans anyone?

I tone down Easter, but we still celebrate it. We did the egg hunt this morning and the kids were so funny. They were hidden better this year because the kids are older. None of them were visible this year, at least not readily. It was fun watching them hunt! Our church service was nice...

    Our Passover celebration 2009

Some of you may have seen this already before we crashed...again. I'd like to have it to look back on, so here we go again. ;) We have been celebrating the Seder dinner for about eight years or so now. We tweak it every year, learning more and adding more. My goal is to make it both...
