    Old Earth Creationism

Genesis 1 1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4And God saw the...

    non-weekly communion

I've never been to a communion service in which confession and absolution was missing from the beginning of worship. I think I might be afraid to partake of the sacrament if it was missing! I had to stop in at my church today for council member stuff, while I was there I talked to pastor...

    non-weekly communion

When we have the Matins service, the confession and absolution is not done. I wish our pastor did as PreachersWife2004's husband does and just insert it in at the beginning anyway.

    non-weekly communion

I think that there may be a growing number of LCMS congregations celebrating the Sacrament weekly. At least one Lutheran synod (ELCA) retained this practice.

    non-weekly communion

Twice a month is typical in WELS congregations and it bothers me very much. I've spoken to my pastor about our church having the Sacrament weekly and he said most of the congregation would probably be against it. I may be wrong about this, but I am beginning to think that many Lutherans don't...

serving Communion... Can we go over this again please?

My church (WELS) has an assistant, an elder, help with the distribution. He comes first with the Body, saying something along the lines of "This is the true Body of our Lord, which is given for you, take and eat". Now, I've been a member for less than a year and I had just assumed that it was...

    Baptism is only a symbol?

I attended the baptism of my 9 week old niece today. It was at a Reformed Presbyterian church. The pastor explained that baptism is only a symbol. If baptism was only a symbolic act then how can it benefit the baby? I’m thinking the symbolism of being baptized is gonna be lost on the child. So...

My 30-Day Media Fast [[[This is powerful]]]

I think this is a great idea. I'm gonna try it. 30 day days, starting now! Internet usage limited to email (for business purposes), and Christian websites. No television. Music/audio will be christian only along with books and magazines. Thanks for the challenge and God bless!

    Orthodox and Mormonism

Cartoon illustrating the Mormon philosophy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy0d1HbItOo Half of my extended family is Mormon, and this is what they believe. The beliefs of the Eastern Orthodox church are not even close to those of the non-Christian cult of Mormonism.

My next Lenten experience for 1st time

I've noticed that our pastor has been wearing black vestment on wednesday evening services, but not on sunday morning. Observation of Lent is only one day a week, or stops on sunday and starts back again monday? I gave up alcohol, but was already making it a point to not drink on sundays anyway...

why so many EO on TCL?

The Holy Spirit gave me faith before I ever visited a Lutheran church. I, as a Lutheran now have my faith strengthened and am blessed through the Sacraments and worship in the Lutheran church.

why so many EO on TCL?

Sounds like your talking about my wife! I don't think I could get her to step foot in an Orthodox church. All the kissing of icons and priest's hands doesn't sit well with me. My family is Anglo/Germanic to the core, we're not kissy huggy type people!

    How did Ash Wednesday start?

You know, BabyLutheran, I bet we're gonna hear about the origins and meaning of Ash Wednesday tonight at our services. I'm new to the idea of observing the church year and Lutheranism so I don't know much either!
