do i keep the wooden train table or get a plastic one?

I have a six year old, a four year old, and an 18 month old. Three years ago I got my oldest a typical wooden trian table for christmas. It is used, but for the most part the trains and tracks get assembled on the floor while the table is just a place to accumulate random toys. I was...

Trying to see if I fit in...

I would call myself a Messianic Gentile, and while I avoid the word "Christian" since there are many things that have been and still are done under that name that are definitely not Christ-like. But I have no problem with sunday-going church goers, those that observer easter and christmas, etc...

Soccer and Shabbat and the Holidays

She is 4 and a half. She will be 5 by next soccer season. She has been dying to play some sport since ds started t-ball a year ago. She can do softball next year, but soccer is what she mentions daily. WE have been observing the holidays for as long as she can remember and been attending a...

Soccer and Shabbat and the Holidays

See that is the thing. I DONT want her missing 3 months of shabbats for the rest of her life, even if dh and I trade off taking her. Some games may be later as she gets older, but in the meantime that is a lot to miss. There *is* an indoor league that has weekday afternoon games. IT *is*...

Soccer and Shabbat and the Holidays

I have a little girl who is dying to play soccer. And for some reason we have to register rather soon for the FALL season. (Go figure) I am ok with it happening on Saturday (which is why this is not in the Orthodox section ;) ), but I have a big problem with missing Shabbat service for like 3...

    More Jewish Humor

LadyGR - that first one made me LOL I love this one: A wealthy Jewish man buys a fabulous home in Beverly Hills, California. He brings in a local workman to decorate the place. When the job is finished, the homeowner is delighted but realizes that he's forgotten to put mezuzahs on the doors...

Meshing of Christian and Biblical Holidays

I also reccomend this site, it explains all the holidays in a way someone raised tradionally Christian can understand. http://www.biblicalholidays.com/ And if you are *really* serious, I reccomend buying the book.

Meshing of Christian and Biblical Holidays

I would reccomend finding out if your dh would be OK obserivng purim in a less "boisterous" way this year - like reading the book of esther and maybe even staying home watching "One night with the King". I am one that despite the arguments given here do NOT believe that celebrating...

Why the influx of Eastern Orthodox?

Well the thread Athaliamum mentioned was the major one. Overall it was the idea that having a Mezzuzah was the same as an icon.

    Are saints good role models?

IMO the real definition of a saint is any true believer. I do not believe that there is a class of people set above others with a special title of saint. Yes, many of the martyrs have inspiring stories and many believers in history have great stories - but they were still just people. And...

    Easter and Passover this Year

I am guessing because Yeshua's death and resurrection originally took place during peshach and so when Easter (considered the ressurection celebration by Christians) corresponds with it it is more accurate. So I am guessing she is sad because of the disconnect. But she can correct me on that.

Why the influx of Eastern Orthodox?

I actually consider myself pretty informed and reasonable too, but I don't go into their forum talking about something I see as inncorrect in thier doctrine. (And yes, it was a non Messianic that started the whole icon deal to begin with.) How on earth is it a good influence for them to come...

    What really is an Icon?

Messiah is hte image of God, not an icon. through His life on earth we are able to understand the love and Holiness of Hashem
