The Ethics and Morality of poking fun at depression and suicide (and mental illness)

Consider that what worked for you not only will not work for everyone else, but could seriously harm them. This advice is a great way to drive a person right over the edge if they're suicidal. Stop saying it.

The Ethics and Morality of poking fun at depression and suicide (and mental illness)

Please don't say things like that. It's dangerous to go untreated and think you can handle mental illness yourself, and it'll make people who can't just 'snap out of it' feel even more guilty and useless because they can't. Not to mention that suggesting people can just choose to not feel...

The mosquito device... should it be banned

It might not cause damage, but it just gave me a pounding headache and made me nauseous. And this was at a low volume where I couldn't actually audibly hear it. My partner could hear it, so apparently there's something rather odd about my hearing.

    DDOS on Scientology?

On the other hand, the anti-Scientologists are getting quite a lot of media attention out of this. Personally, before all of this, I had no idea of the atrocities Scientologists have committed against those who spoke out against them. I've moved from vague dislike of a crazy cult to seeing...

    Racism is sport

It is not acceptable. It also should not be, IMO, illegal. Unless you're promoting actual violence, inciting hatred should still fall under free speech.

Has your girlfriend/wife boyfriend/husband got a responsibility to look good?

One thing to consider is that sometimes taking care of oneself isn't about selfishness, laziness, not caring, or not trying; depression can manifest as a lack of motivation in even something as basic as this, and something such as losing a job could intensify such a thing. I know that I've had...

pe(a)dophile != (does not equal for the non-programmers) child molestor

How does one molest a child without first desiring to do so?

pe(a)dophile != (does not equal for the non-programmers) child molestor

I don't think anybody here has said that pedophiles aren't potential child molesters; of course they are, just as anyone is. We're saying that they're not all actual child molesters, and equating the two is wrong.

pe(a)dophile != (does not equal for the non-programmers) child molestor

I'm not sure about watched closely, but I agree with what has been said about them working unsupervised with children; if they are being responsible about their desires for children and don't want to hurt them, they should already keep themselves from such temptation, and if they can't do so...

pe(a)dophile != (does not equal for the non-programmers) child molestor

"So what if they don't act on it?" That's the entire point; what can we condemn them for if they're not acting on it? Should we blame them for desires they never chose, lock them up when they've not hurt anyone?
