    Nowhere to Go

My husband is threatening to throw me out of the apartment because I refuse to go on ignoring his drug problem. I have no job, no degree, no friends, no family...Nowhere to stay, and no way to get one. I want so much for him to choose me over the drugs and for our marriage to work out, but at...

    Nowhere to Go

My husband is threatening to throw me out of the apartment because I refuse to go on ignoring his drug problem. I have no job, no degree, no friends, no family...Nowhere to stay, and no way to get one. If you could pray that against all hope that somehow he would ditch the drugs and we could...

    Feet & traditional footwear

I still think it makes sense to tailor the shoe to what the activity is for. Is a bare foot really better for running? Maybe, since that's what it mainly evolved to do, but I'm not sure the same would hold true for basketball, let alone activities like dancing or marching band where you actively...

    Ladies?

I was making my own dinner on weeknights from the age of ten or eleven onward, since neither of my parents got home from work until later. I never made anything elaborate, and still rarely bother, but I learned how to produce acceptable results quickly once I realized it was the only way I'd get...

How is going to church NOT good for marriage?

I see it as both. Improving yourself and your relationship with others, when undertaken for spiritual motives, is really just a form of worship. It may not be a magic bullet, but surely you don't deny that once and awhile good pastors give insightful teachings on the topic of love and...

    Alleys

I've lived in a couple neighborhoods that had them. I always hated it, since my night vision is terrible and one of the places was semi-sketchy. No voluntarily walking out there after dark for me, unless I had trash that absolutely had to go out right then.

    Does Age Matter?

Depends on the post. If it's a theological, political, or other sort of ideological conversation, I don't even bother to look. If the person is asking for advice, however, their age can be relevant.

Good christian resources for YOUNG ADULTS??

Intervarsity also publishes a lot of stuff. I don't always agree entirely with their theology, but their resources might prove helpful to you. InterVarsity Press

How is going to church NOT good for marriage?

I agreed with the statement that church helps, but I'll acknowledge that depending on the theology the church teaches, the sermons could be harmful rather than helpful. The issue with interfaith relationships is also a good point.

Gamers and the whole "gamer scene"

First of all, how many guys who watched the superbowl picked up an actual football in the past year? The past ten years? I'd wager that's not a very encouraging percentage. Now, how many used it as an excuse to get drunk, lounge on the sofa, and eat fattening foods? Even among college and high...

    Curious...

    1. Love assures a successful marriage. A-Assuming people follow through on that love with their actions, that is. 2. If divorces were made harder to obtain, it would strengthen marriages. D-You'd just have more people sticking around in failed marriages. 3. Inlaws can affect the happiness of a...

Gamers and the whole "gamer scene"

And I disagreed that it was a symptom of a problem, and agreed that either way it wasn't ethical. In any case, your workplace is much more motivated than any I've ever been in. Not that that's a bad thing. It probably means you actually get to do something useful for society. ^_^

    Lent

In the past I have attended churches that observe Lent, but organized fasting (or other similar sacrifices) is not something I really agree with. If an individual feels called to fast, fine, then yes, they should. Fasting can be beneficial when undertaken with the right attitude. But I refuse to...

Gamers and the whole "gamer scene"

You don't know anyone who's called off sick to go hunting/camping with their buddies? To go to a scifi convention? To watch an important episode of a TV series? While it may not be ethical to call off work for any of these things, I disagree that doing so is a sign of addiction to related...

Darkest song I've heard in years.

Could you explain to me why you think this song is sad or against God? I honestly can't see why it would be and am curious how people are reading it that way.

Darkest song I've heard in years.

I can see how it could be considered "dark" in terms of the chords it uses, but I find the lyrics to be quite the opposite. It's about breaking free and living life the way you truly want to. I suppose you could interpret that it as a negative thing if you assume that "his way" involves some...

Reluctance to draw from other cultures

I take a rather universalist approach to religion. I believe all religions have some truth in them and that all of them are valid, though imperfect, approaches to the divine. The thing is, I also believe religion is highly dependent on culture, since culture plays such a huge part in shaping...

    How far can devotion go?

I see the second poll option as too broad. For most healthy individuals, fasting is harmless. On the other hand, not accepting a medical procedure (vaccinations, for instance) will often put you and perhaps others at risk. At any rate, I would like to believe I'd do anything I truly believed...

    Pet peeve: US Postal terms

There are potentially hazardous solids. But anyway, I think it's for the purpose of preventing lawsuits just in case.
