    A video of my hometown

I thought that some of you whom have gotten to know me over the years would enjoy seeing this. The morning market is where I go to buy food for the cafe everyday. Laos featured on World Traveller : Lao Voices

Obedience to God and following your heart are not the same thing.

They can be. But your heart is not God.

    Fear of God

What sort of impact has fear of the Woes (which are actually a promise of negative consequences) had on your growth as a Christian or aided you in modifying your behavior? Stories are good.

    Golden Calves

Every year as I read through Kings and Chronicles I'm disturbed by the golden calves that Jeroboam erected (1Kings12:28) shortly after Solomon died. All the Kings, in the following years left the calves standing, even though some of them otherwise followed God's ways. Finally Josiah destroyed...

Acts 16:1-24 What do you know?

This week will be a smaller than usual gathering for our Sunday fellowship so I offered my house since I don't have it full of babies anymore. We are reading through the book of Acts and verses 16:1-24 are the next we need to cover. I forgot that the hosting family is also responsible for...

    Did I tell a lie?

Another fella came into the cafe today and wanted to talk religion. At one point he got on the Jews because they had stopped animal sacrifice. I told him that the reason they had stopped animal sacrifice was because the temple was destroyed, so they had no place to offer sacrifice. And that in...

    The vine and the branch

We are all familiar with the verses from John 15. Yesterday, sitting on the bank of the river in a warm patch of sunlight, reading a small book by Andrew Murray called The True Vine, I had a :doh:moment. The sap. I had never before considered that if the branch isn't tightly bonded to the vine...

    Walk away Christians

Why is it that so many people who were raised Christian, walked away from Christ as an adult, now want to talk religion when they meet a Christian? A man today didn't even introduce himself to me, he heard I was a Christian and tried to start a conversation with me by asking me if I followed...

A true message from an unliked messenger

I'm trying to think of one occasion in the bible where the messenger was liked. The message was always true, yet the messenger was frequently denigrated and/or ignored by the majority. It confuses me a bit why God would use such a seemingly inefficient method of communication.

    Get Real!

I can't believe I just read a post where someone says they are being persecuted because another Christian disagrees with their doctrine. Good Grief.

    Are we there yet?

"One of the greatest proofs that you are drawing on the grace of God is that you can be humiliated without manifesting the slightest trace of anything but His grace." -- Oswald Chambers. As I read this today, I really wanted to be in this place. Not just not reacting on the outside, but to be...

I think there is a lot of truth in this

"The church has flip-flopped the Biblical role of the pastor by making him the counselor of the confused and comforter of the upset instead of the trainer of the strong." Bill Hull Makes you think about why there are no lower tiers of ministry available in some churches, and why so many...

Christianity - More effective as a business or a Religion?

I was looking around the web and found lots of flashy ads for Christian stuff. So just how much do you think the Christian market generates each year?

    The Chronicles of Narnia

I've been sent the first two (are there more?) DVD's of Narnia in a language understood by my employees. I loaned them to a buddhist girl and she kept them an extra week because she loved the lion. So I loaned them to a Christian woman so she could talk with the first girl about the movies...

Complicated issues of life and faith

A young man at work made me cry today. I have five highschoolers that I take care, who come to work at the cafe on Saturdays. I asked D (a supervisor) to teach V(a 15 yr old girl) how to make espresso drinks. He looked shocked, so I explained that it was an experiment. I wanted to see if...

"Enter the church and be saved"?

A Thai channel is carrying a broadcast out of the Phillipines and a bit of it is in English. I've heard this statement a few times in different forms. Is this a new teaching that has sprung up recently?
