    Personally conservative but tolerant

Nothing government does morally legitimizes anything. Government is an organized crime syndicate, and is no more an authority on morality that the Mafia or a Columbian drug cartel is. Government can tell you what's legal, not what's moral.

What does it mean to be a Moderate Christian?

    I'm a moderate Christian, not in the sense of lacking zeal, but in the sense of on some issues siding with theological conservatives, and on some with theological liberals. Politics is a separate matter, on which I'm mostly libertarian;

End of Marriage As An Institution?

I don't see any end to marriage coming. It remains popular, and same sex marriage is not in any way a threat to it.

I could need a friend for learning liberal theology

Reading the Bible Again for the First Time, by Marcus J. Borg, is one that I would recommend.

Why are so many hard on Catholics?

Like many from the Anglican tradition, I like to blur the line between Catholic and Protestant, what we call the via media, or middle way. I'm a "small-c" catholic, which means universal, not in communion with Rome, but a member of the universal Christian church. I think the three main Christian...

    Anglican Prayer Beads.

I haven't tried them, but I might. I have no idea how to use them, coming from a purely Protestant background, but since I'm part of an Anglo-Catholic congregation, I'm sure we have people who'd show me.

Episcopalians and Anglicans beliefs and particies survey by PRC

You wouldn't notice much difference from a typical "high church" Episcopalian service. It's liturgical, and while not always BCP, very similar to it (we write a lot of our own liturgies, often based on Benedictine or Franciscan sources). Our music is mostly composed in-house, based on...

Episcopalians and Anglicans beliefs and particies survey by PRC

Alas, I fear a brief summary of it is impossible. It isn't a coherent body of theology, but an ongoing conversation about the changing paradigms underlying our philosophies and theologies. "A Generous Orthodoxy", by Brian D. McLaren, is a good introduction to it. McLaren has some unorthodox...

Episcopalians and Anglicans beliefs and particies survey by PRC

Thanks! :) I mean that I am ("small-o") orthodox according to the historic doctrines of the church. But I like a good many emergent authors, and am a member of a parish that self-identifies as part of the "emerging church". Some theologically conservative folks contend that orthodox and...

    Which Denomination?

I like liturgical services in the Catholic style. But there are a number of issues I have with the RCC that aren't present in the Oid Catholic (Utrecht) tradition. Ordination of women is one, a non-negotiable for me. So is the blessing of same sex marriages. Papal infallibility, purgatory...

    My faith is really struggling

I think your problem is mainly due to geography. Central Florida is a very conservative area. Episcopal and ELCA Lutheran churches in the Seattle area are mostly "open and affirming".

What makes a Christian a liberal, moderate, conservative or fundamentalist?

As Hedrick observed, the same person can be both liberal and conservative in various. ways. I belong to both the Episcopal and ELCA Lutheran denominations, both mainline. I don't hold to inerrancy, but do believe in Jesus' physical resurrection and at least most of his miracles being real and...

Episcopalians and Anglicans beliefs and particies survey by PRC

We didn't actually merge, but grew up that way: first as an ELCA mission station, then also a TEC mission station, then as an ELCA church, then also a TEC church. It's been pretty seamless.

Anglican and Episcopal: how do they distinguish themselves?

The Episcopal Church is the US Anglican Communion affiliate. As an Episcopalian, I refer to myself as Anglican almost interchangeably. But there are American Anglicans who call themselves that to distinguish themselves from TEC, so that can tricky if they're involved... but only then.

    Which Denomination?

I would be ELCA Lutheran, the other denomination I already belong to (my church has dual TEC/ELCA affiliations). I'd like Old Catholic (Utrecht) too, but since they're not in the US, that's not an available option.

Episcopalians and Anglicans beliefs and particies survey by PRC

I'm both TEC and ELCA, though I'll generally say Episcopalian if asked. Since the merger works very well in my parish, I wouldn't mind seeing it spread. I'm creedally orthodox, but "emergent", and not especially liberal or conservative. I'm politically libertarian and a Libertarian Party member...

What brought you into the Anglican church?

Mostly I came to be Anglican as the result of reading and being influenced by C.S. Lewis and N.T. Wright. While I've attended churches of a good many other denominations, I've always thought of myself as "Anglican at heart". So, when I visited a small "emergent" Episcopal/Lutheran church (yes...

Which Anglican Church do you favor?

My church has dual TEC/ELCA affiliations. I call myself Episcopalutheran Anglo-Catholic. Which I mean in an emergent, post-charismatic way.

How to get through to Conservatives?

I don't share Truthfree's view of life beginning at conception, so I see some room for compromise on the abortion issue. But that's an entirely separate matter from the question of what should government do about safety nets, health care and income inequality. Conservatives and progressives are...
