    Looking for some research

Indeed the very one. He gives a little Biography of himself in the introduction to Misquoting Jesus..., very interesting journey he's been on to get to where he is today (a graduate of Moody Bible institute and so forth). You read B.A.R by any chance?

Why should Christians be involved in Archaeology?

I avoid the title only because the conotation most people get of it is that those archaeologists in that field are going about proving the Bible and excavating the Israelite camps in the Egyptian desert or something, which is misleading if the conotation stays put in the mind. You do have a...

    Looking for some research

If you are dealing with NT writings I'd suggest Bruce Metzger and Bart Ehrham (been reading some of his works lately and they are really readable).

Why should Christians be involved in Archaeology?

Why should a Christian be an archaeologist? Well, if they have the drive, amnition and talent in the field, why not? The question is as silly as asking, "Why should Christians be doctors? or biologists? or mechanics?" Although I do think that Christians will gear those archaeologicall-inclined...

Just some thoughts on Bible reading..

I'm kinda there too, I just finished a paper for my religion class discussing how most early Christians would not have read the gospels literally (they're in the format of Greco-Roman hero tales). So, I hear ya.

    Special preference to homosexuals

First off, there are laws protecting against gender and racial discrimination, yet there are still those who openly hate women and others who openly hate certain groups. So are you saying that women, Asians and other groups (which compose most of the population taken all together) have more...

    Special preference to homosexuals

Well, you could change your sex, if you wanted to. ;)But in all seriousness, sure you can refuse to hire certain people. It's illegal but you can do it. I would also volunteer that it's rather un-Christlike too, but if you don't mind...

    Special preference to homosexuals

You still have me confused here. How is this giving special preference to homosexuals? Surely if you applied to me for a job and I refused to hire you (a qualified applicant) because of your religion, hair color or sex you would cry discrimination. Why then is sexual preference not given equal...

    Special preference to homosexuals

As an addition, the hate crimes legislation on the books in most states today do not include protection for sexual orientation.

    Special preference to homosexuals

I'm quite confused, how would this give homosexuals special preferences? I read it as merely saying that employers may not fire, refuse to hire or unfairly pass up a homosexual for promotion. I've heard horror stories from gay and lesbian individuals about how they had to keep their orientation...

is there a best bible version for liberals?

I'd like to know just what exactly you mean by this. Nothinh against your quote, but in my experience "the original" means different things to different Christians. I've seen liberal Christians use ever translation under the sun. For myself, I like the NASB, RSV or if I'm looking up something in...

    Holy Drinking Water

My friends and I couldn't stop laughing at this...and then we became slightly disgusted at the heights and lengths people go to to commercialize religion.

    What are the essentials?

Being a follower of Christ is the only requirement, so far as I see it.

    Why College?

I'd look around at other four-year schools, a lot are pretty lax about HS grades and whatnot, especially the smaller ones.

Do you know what to major in?

Classics and Greek, but according to the registar's office I haven't declared yet, oops.

Bibles being moved to the "fiction" section

About as ridiculous as when I notice some bookstores moving "The Origin of Species" or similar works to the religion or mythology section (I've seen this happen and it ticks me off).

    Why College?

I too hated high school. But my parents wouldn't allow me not to go since education has always been a big deal (for my mom especially). That was the main factor. And now, I've found a few things that I'm passionate about and have been pleasently surprised that I'm now passionate about learning...

    Best Self-learn Greek Textbook

I'd reccomend learning Classical Greek first if you want to jump into NT greek, it helps you get a really strong handle on the grammar. I'd suggest Anne Groton's From Alpha to Omega along these lines, she is a professor at St. Olaf College.

    What is in a Name?

Throw out most of the NT then, because every single writer refers to Yeshua by the Greek equivelant of the Hebrew name. To hold this position, then, you must admit that scripture is powerless and little more than worthless.
