Why does it keep coming back?

Thanks a lot for everyone's support! I am up and down still, struggling a bit, but optimistic and hopeful. I am trying to distract myself and stay positive. Kay Kay - I liked the dandruff analogy :) I once again started some of old CBT and ERT exercises that have worked for me in the past...

Why does it keep coming back?

I'm on what I would guess is about my 7th or 8th cycle of OCD. As many of you know, this disorder tends to wax and wane, and I am back to struggling, after a considerable hiatus. Why, after my previous recovery, and knowing what I do about the nature of OCD, am I suffering again? I am...

    need advice

I think a lot of OCD sufferers think they are suffering from schizophrenia at one point or another or are afraid that they are "heading down that path." My doc says no way though. OCD is its own illness that makes people fear that they have "lost their minds." He said that just because you...

    A question for parents

Hi all, I have been a sporadic poster on this board for years. While I've done considerably well with OCD, every once in a while it comes back for a haunt, usually when I'm pregnant, as I am now. So my son is almost 2 and is starting to become aware of things that make him afraid. I'm not...

Toddler is afraid - but I'm not sure of what

My husband NEVER raises his voice. The ceilings are not very high, but when we tested it out again, there most definitely is a bit of an echo. He is not particularly fond of loud noises anyway, so I am sure we just caught him off guard.

Toddler is afraid - but I'm not sure of what

I feel that I should update. He slept through the night and has been playing well all morning, even by himself. I think the loud noise spooked him and he had a hard time calming down. We'll see how he does after his nap.

Toddler is afraid - but I'm not sure of what

My husband was in his office today and my 22-month-old son and I were in his playroom. I told him to say "I love you daddy" to surprise his dad. He said it quietly so I told him to scream it, which he seemed happy to do. When my husband responded loudly, my son seemed uneasy. Of course my...

    Bad News

I have been off of my meds successfully for about two months. All was well!!! ...until the news on Sunday night blasted across a story that was horrifying even to the most stable of citizens. The whole time I watched I was like, what am I doing? I am going to dig myself an emotional hole...

Not sure what to do anymore

This is probably as simple as OCD lingering around. If it doesn't get better soon, call your doctor - perhaps a different med? Sometimes OCD can be worse for the first couple weeks you are on the meds. Rest assured, you will feel again. Even without the meds, OCD tends to come and...

    Pure "O" OCD + I think I'm nuts

I am so glad to hear that. I'll pray that God guides you through your treatment. Putting it out there that you are struggling with this illness is the hardest part.

I praise God for my progress!

A recent thread made me realize how well I've done since my diagnosis three years ago. I used to think I was crazy and going to stab everyone, or run them over in cross walks. I was convinced I was going to have to get a divorce and live in an asylum and never be a mother. And here I am...

    Pure "O" OCD + I think I'm nuts

PS - you obviously aren't nuts. The only people who are nuts are the people who don't realize it! I have come to believe that we are all the sane ones! :)

    Pure "O" OCD + I think I'm nuts

Yeah, I've had the knife thoughts, and the subway thoughts, and the someone is watching me thoughts. My therapist says that if you think you're crazy, your obsessions start to imitate what you associate with "crazy." So for me that meant that I associated "crazy" with being schizophrenic and...

    a question for the SAHM's

I feel like there aren't enough hours in my day. I do soooo much stuff in one day that I think I work harder now than I did when I had a day job. I also thrive on being around people. I am fortunate enough to have a husband who owns his own business who is here rather often. My sister in law...

Have I been spoiling my baby too much?

I didn't use the cry it out method on my son because he slept really well (through some amazing luck of mine) from the beginning and I don't think it's right for me anyway. But I know several people who used it as a last resort and it worked in a matter of days. Their children are very high...

frightened by a commercial on tv.....

I can't stand when this happens. You're just sitting there watching some innocent little thing on TV and here comes a totally creepy commercial that ruins everything. I am praying for you and your daughter. It really bothers me that they show this kind of stuff during totally unrelated...
