    American Muslims Well Intigrated

Huh...so what about this... Or how about this one... To sum up, one of the questions they asked was whether "bombings and other types of attacks intentionally aimed at civilians are sometimes justified"? Americans approved of such attacks by a much larger margin than Iranians -- 51-16%...

    Guy's hair

Well I know of at least two...St. Panteleimon the Unmercenary and Apostle Philip of the Twelve. ;) I personally enjoy having at least a week's worth of growth, and I have grown it out longer a few times. It just gets so darned itchy. And I like to keep it short on top, excepting my...

    On Suicide...

Something I have been struggling with lately is the topic of suicide. It's not in any way affecting my decision to become Orthodox, and I'm willing to submit my beliefs to those of the church. It just seems like a really hardline position to say that because suicide is the only sin that you...

    .:Blue Like Jazz:.

It would be a first...because I live in Portland...and work about 4 blocks from Powell's. They probably have 10 copies.

    A request from a friend

Saint Stylianos is known as a powerful intercessor for children. Also, I know that the relics of St. John of San Francisco are wonderworking, and that they very likely preserved the life of my friends baby. :crosseo:

Hi guys, new to the forum, got a question about taking the Bible literally

I would mention that literally can mean different things. As in I read newspapers literally...but I also read novels literally. The Bible is made up of many different genres, not to mention the cultural gap that exists between most readers of the Scriptures and the original authors. The...

    sign of the cross

The only part of the Liturgy where the lifting of hands is typically seen is where the priest says "Let our hearts be on high," and the people respond with, "we have them with the Lord." That being said, lifting up your hands isn't really forbidden, but I know that it brings up, in me at least...

    Justifyable War?

Ummm...yeah...that's an Apocolyptic book...so I'd be careful in any attempts to extrapolate any lessons about participating in America's military from it. ;)

    Justifyable War?

I absolutely agree. Protecting the weak or the defenseless is something that I believe is required of all of us, but the question comes down to whether or not we are to partake in wars, even wars against legitimate evil. In those casesI have a hard time justifying our involvement. I have an...

    Music mag

I gotta go with Paste. They can be a bit alt-country heavy, but they have great interviews, reviews, and a mix CD and DVD with every issue. :yum:

    Justifyable War?

The question should also be raised, is it possible that Jesus came to demonstrate the path of non-retaliation? That, even though he could have destroyed his executioners and accusers in the blink of an eye, and been completely justified in doing so, but instead he chose to submit to an unjust...

What do you think about "oneness" theology?

Ummmm...yeah...that's what we like to call heresy. That was settled loooong ago.

    Beard

My wife would make little comments about my beard, until I (in an uncharacteristically fim manner) let her know that the beard was here to stay. So she's gotten used to it.;) Much like everyone else, I was drawn to the kickin' beards that I kept seeing in the Orthodox church. A lot of guys...

    Multiple reads...

So there are only a couple of books I have read through more than a few times. Watership Down and Ender's Game. I first read both of them late in elementary school, and have read them both many times since. They just keep getting better. What books have done this for you?

What are you listening to right now

Good call! I love them, and it's always good for a hometown band to make it big. For me it's "Weary Memory" by Iron and Wine.

What's more important - The way a game looks or plays?

Well, i terms of the OP, I would think that the obvious answer would be..well, a balance of the two. As was seen with the recent release of God of War II, people are willing to overlook graphical problems (or in the case of GoW II, being on an older machine) if the gameplay is exciting enough...

    Question about Mary

Unless it's a Mystery, in which case there is no need to project rationalism onto something that is, by definition, beyond rationalization. Unless you consider the universal testimony of the early church, as well as both RC and EO churches, to be unsubstantiated...
