    As the Communion crumbles...

The Primate of Tanzania is a twice-yearly visitor to our church, and we have several of our young people doing their gap years under him. We also have frequent visits from the Bishop of Kebbi, and our diocese has a Nigeria link. Relationships are alive and well.

Holy Day celebrations as a vehicle for outreach

It's a fine proposal. We tend to focus our major family outreach activities around the school year, which in turn is built around the church year. I would caution that those days are just a place on the calendar rather than the focus of the outreach activities themselves. It's nice to teach a...

    Question about candles

I know some of you like to light candles in churches, and I wanted to ask a question about this. I was visiting a cathedral yesterday with an aunt. My kids wanted to light candles, but I was not exactly encouraging. My aunt says that when she doesn't have time to pray, she lights one of these...

Sky Channels taken off Virgin Media

We got a letter from Virgin the other day offering us premium movies for a penny each, as compensation. TBH, I am not missing Sky at all. Kudos to Richard Branson for standing up to them

    Are You dating/with a Christian or non-Christian

I think it can sometimes be a problem in a marriage, if the non-Christian spouse objects to the amount of money, time and talents that the Christian spouse gives to the church. There can also be tensions when children come along.

    Lancashire...La...La...La

Wrightington, I'm sure is the hosptial I was thinking of. The other town that springs to mind is Standish - there were traffic jams today according to Radio 2 and I suddenly remembered. :) I suspect the hotel has changed names because I don't recognise anything I can find on the web. The...

    Boycott Procter and Gamble 07

Cosmetic safety tests do not rely on animal testing nowadays. Also household cleaning products. As for medicines, progress has been slow, so 100% reliance on in vitro or computer modelling is a long way off. Even when Science has reached the point of having confidence in animal alternatives...

Sorry, but you are wrong about that. The information is clearly available on the web. Even without cast iron guarantees, you can easily hypothesise about it yourself. Why would a cosmetic company animal test? Answer this question truthfully, and you can forget the activist propaganda.

    Boycott Procter and Gamble 07

Procter & Gamble's colour cosmetics are not tested on animals, nor are hair care products, skin creams.

    Boycott Procter and Gamble 07

The two things are not mutually exclusive. It is possible to value human rights over animal welfare - that's called having a sense of perspective. Supporting animal testing, as the vast majority of the UK public do, does not mean being overly cruel, or by doing more testing than is necessary -...

    Boycott Procter and Gamble 07

I really think you have it wrong here, Spoiltbrat. I don't think that it is particularly helpful to get all the info on this topic from activist websites. This is basically propaganda, and is not at all balanced. There are always two sides to every story, so it is important to review all the...

Catholic school bans Red Nose fund-raising

I think the RS syllabus is divided into several papers and each school can decide which papers they will enter their pupils for, according to the school ethos. If parents are objectional, they needn't send their children to that school.

Still waiting to find out about the details of animal testing in the cosmetics industry. Does it really happen and is it really cheaper? Is there a commercial advantage. Very skeptical of 'animals rights' websites.

Catholic school bans Red Nose fund-raising

I don't think that the ethos of the school overly affect the academic curriculum, which is mostly driven by the exam boards. Academics is only one part of school - they also have the co-curricular curriculum and pastoral care. These non-academic parts of the curriculum are where parochial...

    Lancashire...La...La...La

Trip down memory lane here.... I used to work at a factory in Skelmersdale, which involved flying up from London for 2 or 3 days every week. I stayed in a hotel at the motorway exit just beyond another motorway off the M6. It was one or two exists north of Skem. I'd love to remember the name...
